Second book in the King of the Water series. This had a lot of the tropes you can find in a romantic book. I liked the depiction of what happens when your life gets uprooted suddenly and the complexity of the bond of a parent to his child. While Jace wasn't a great love interest at first, he felt like a real person whose head was under the water (pun intended). Millie was a breath of fresh air and the way their relationship evolves was really great.
Alright, this whole trilogy was much more fun than I anticipated. I went into it with low expectations because I had been disappointed with another business man alpha boss and his human secretary and it was terrible. This was solid and the entire three books amount to one long book so it was a perfect easy cute read.

This fell too flat to me. The FMC was fine, but the MMC were all over the place. Their characterization was weak and so it was hard to connect with them, and thus, connect with them as a pack. I get that the point was that everything unraveled really quickly but I do feel like with some more thorough editing, this should have been a great omegaverse story.
J.T. Geissinger does it again. Her writing style irritates me at first but then I get so invested in the characters I just can't put the book down. I do find her style to be very particular but honestly, her characters feel so real and flawed yet so incredibly endearing that it's not a hardship to get through the book.
I think I'm in love. Either with Lukas or with Scarlett. Or maybe I just want to be the ham in their sandwich. But sign me up. I loved the writing style, it flowed, the characters had their voices. Even the drama seemed real and not overdone. Lukas and Scarlett were precious. The whole thing is actually really really light on bdsm honestly. I went into this for it and did not find what I was looking for, but you know what it doesn't matter because instead of bdsm, you'll find kindred spirits and that works too.
This is my least favourite book in the series. I don't know if my reading it all in the wrong order influenced this but I have enjoyed the other three couples so much that this one just fell flat. Might also be that Sloane St James polished her craft with each book. I do find the basis of the story really interesting and it has all the elements I enjoyed in her other books, that is to say obsessed male hero who worships the ground his woman walks on.
I appreciated this a little less than the last two in the series but more than the first. I think my main gripe is in the way Micky and Rhys met. THey were fire together and this had all the greatness of Sloane St James but the whole cam girl thing just didn't play out like I thought it would. All in all, it remained tasteful but it still felt weird. Like in her other books, there are issues that can be upsetting to readers but it's always very tactfully handled (I'm thinking of Rhys' addict sister).
I'm shocked that I'm rating this slightly lower than the rest of the series but I didn't connect with Kennedy and Isaiah as much as with the others. That said, it's still a freaking great book especially when you consider how difficult it is to write a character such as Kennedy who can appear aloof and cold. At times, it feels like Isaiah carries the entire thing but honestly, as you dig into the characters, Kennedy is such an amazing character. She deserves everything and while, at times, you scream at Isaiah to stop with the puppy love, she deserves it so much. And because of who they are and what they can give each other, their story just blossoms and it's perfect.
I just wish I could read this entire series as if it was my first time.
I'm fucked up and not in the best of way. I hate being a Debbie Downer but this is Stockholm syndrome and needs to be advertised as such before young girls get in there and think this is okay and not a dark romance. I've read dark romances before that I've enjoyed but this is just sending A LOT of wrong signals all over.
I think there was an interesting premise that could not be explored fully in 88 pages. It was a little all over the place, the pacing a little off and overall, just didn't quite work out : it was hard to care for the MMC motives because of the brisk pace and the FMC couldn't be developed in layers despite everything that happens in the book.
This had one big issue (namely the timing of Teddy's grief and her falling in love with Xander). I would be of those people that tell you that you can't put a timer on these things but it does feel a little disingenous to have her move on with her life so soon after her husband's death. Is Xander hot? Hell yeah. Is he total hot husband daddy material? Hell yes. But considering how in love Teddy was with her husband, it does put a slight awkwardness on the timing. Once you've moved on from this (if you manage to), it is NOT hard to fall in love with Teddy and Xander. I'm not familiar with Danielle Baker but this made me interested in her work for sure.
I was looking for an easy short read for times when I don't feel like diving into a too long novel. I'm on the fence about this. It had what I wanted : short, fun and stupidly first sight lust and love. I wasn't in love with this because it was really quite corny and the characterization, despite the author's best efforts, couldn't be that great. But I suppose you can't have everything.
I loved this one almost as much as the third one. Camden was such a worthy MC and Jordana such a strong FMC. I found the depiction of the abusive relationship Jordana was in to be quite intelligent. Loved that Camden was a great man regarding feminist issues which did not negate the fact that he was a manwhore (at first) as well. As usual, Sloane St James balances sexy with sweet and fun. And is fact becoming a favourite author of mine.
I totally read these in disorder but honestly, it's no big deal. It's not like you don't know each couple is going to get their HEA and not much is spoiling everyone's stories.
Anyway, onto the book.... it's a very basic non surprising story of a one night stand gone “wrong” but Sloane St James' strength is definitely in the banter, in the chemistry between her characters. Her heroes border the line between golden retrievers and just the right amount of “wrong” in a way that make it really easy for you to root for them.
All in all, the book is sexy, it's funny, it's cute and heartwarming. A perfect read to let go of the stress of your day.
This was another solid read. There were aspects that resonated less with me. For example, I could understand Lala's desperate attempts to please Milo any way she could and while I get that can happen, combined with all the bdsm aspects, I thought the message was a little dangerous. She was written as quite unexperienced even if not completely innocent and so it didn't feel so much like it was a part of her as much as she willed it into existence to be perfect for him. That's my main qualm with this book compared to the others.
Apart from that, the writing is still to be commended.
There was something very real and genuine about Blake and Gavin that made it so easy to root for them. There was trauma that was actually traumatic, trauma that gets better when you can share it with someone but that doesn't disappear because newsflash everyone, love doesn't make everything that hurts disappear. Kayla Grosse manages to make two characters fall in love, make it sexy AND make it believable.
Her writing's powerful enough to convey all of this and then some.
