This book is beautiful! The art style is perfect for this story, the illustrations emotional and telling. There is such a seamless flow between reality and digital styles.
The story is a little bit of coming of age tale and about discovering how playing online and meeting people is just as real and meaningful as life. Great read I recommend it to basically everyone who enjoys graphic novels .
Compared to the other two books of The Princess in Black I found this one to be a little lacking. The illustration is still top notch but the story felt kinda boring. ~Ashley
A wonderfully staged adventure with plastic dinosaurs causing havoc around the house. This book is a really fun read with reoccurring Dino characters, my favorite is the Parasaur that looks like he's screaming
My boyfriend and I read this book out loud together, and I wish we didn't. Neither of us was excited about this book, though so short and by a well known author we felt compelled to finish it. Honestly, If I read this myself I think I would have enjoyed it a bit more. Think of this as a 2.5 star, I really liked tenacity of getting the fish and in the end his hard work [ gets eaten by sharks! (hide spoiler)] unrewarded, and he is left with just his pride in the end. ~Ashley
This book is based off the childhood of the author and offers some great perspective of what it's like growing up deaf and some struggles she went through like friendship and dealing with being self conscience. I particularly enjoyed that she could view her differences like super powers when she had her equipment with her [and even got to play hero when they didn't want to get caught by the teacher. (hide spoiler)] A fantastic read and I also learned a lot from it. ~Ashley
Charming book about a princess that doesn't play by the traditional rules and saves the day! This is a nicely sized book that I would recommend for young readers going starting to read junior level material. ~Ashley
Some of my favorite stories are told without words just through beautiful art! This book has no words but I've spent a few minutes just studying what the pictures are conveying and the amazing detail that was put into each page. Absolutely a gorgeous adventure!
Some children can not understand how a book could possibly be entertaining without pictures in them. Read them this book and they will learn that words can be just as fun and powerful over the reader!
This biography has a little bit of everything of Amy Poehler life experiences. The chapters are written frank and very candidly. If your a fan of Amy you can definitely hear her voice in the writting.
I loved the artwork in this especially the colors. The story I feel there is something there but I was absolutely bored. The story pace seemed off to me~Ashley
I'm learning more about personal finance and I thought this was a really nice beginning book (if you don't mind some cursing) There were parts that I felt were a tad long and some part I wish there was some more elaboration on. I like the vibe in this book which wants you to be independent with money and a few tips on how to get ahead in the working world. I would recommend this book if you are learning about budgeting and more. ~Ashley
I actually like the movie much better, the book I was hoping would have another element or just in general more to it. Either way pretty enjoyable read!
~Ashley
Everyone needs a vacation, even a super hero/princess! We have Goat boy ready for action and not getting any monster problems and Princess is getting all of them when she just wanted to get away for a while. I love the design of the sea monster is so fun. ~Ashley
I have been waiting so long for this! I've been waiting for it to come out and then I was on a lengthy holds list in order to read it! It was worth the wait because this is one of my favorite things in comics right now. The art style is amazing (Fiona Staples if on of my favorite artists) and the bizarre world they present to you is absolutely captivating! There are so many interesting creature designs and compelling plot. If you're new to the series I highly suggest it. It's kinda like a Romeo & Juliet meets space opera. ~Ashley
[ The ending of this hit me so hard! They really know how to do emotional scenes and cliffhangers! I can't wait till the next one! (hide spoiler)]
This was really quite good. This volume has two stories is it, One has the first appearance of the Joker and is an early experience Batman tale. (Apparently a sequel to Batman: Year One?) I'm a sucker for early experience Batman tales and love to see Gordon and Batman work side by side. Gordon especially has some good dialogue. Although, I have to say I actually enjoyed the 2nd story “Made of Wood” much much more. I really don't know anything about Alan Scott Green Lantern, except that his weakness is wood. It was interesting to hear more lore about him and how he was the early hero of Gotham. This was really his story with Batman doing the detective work and it really had a touching ending. [ Can you imagine having such an obsession/grudge against Green Lantern that you kept that baseball bat that knocked him out and that even got passed on to your kid? I felt great sympathy for the villain in this volume. It was a brief explanation but made so much sense. When Alan got hit with that bat I even felt it! I cried at the end seeing the signed bat memento and Batman's picture of his father meeting Alan Scott was really heartfelt to me. (hide spoiler)] The art in these are really nice and each of the two stories I felt were compelling and really felt like a detective series getting clues and observations from Batman to piece things together. I finished it rather quickly and I highly recommend. ~Ashley
This book is quite the set up for an interesting series of is Peter Parker actually alive or maybe just a clone.
When an artist makes a deal with death to have incredible power of his art medium in exchange he only has 200 days to live. An incredible and emotional journey about his artistic struggles and his day to day life. This book can get pretty sad as the character becomes desperate. Be prepared this can be an emotional read. ~Ashley
Reminds me of the [b:Bone, Vol, 1: Out from Boneville 106134 Bone, Vol, 1 Out from Boneville (Bone, #1) Jeff Smith https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327921261l/106134.SY75.jpg 2218243] series.Adventure, new world, a touch of dark tones...great!
I wrote a really long review on this and my computer lost it! Nooo! I'll be writing a much shorter review now... :(
This story captures the essence and character of Batman perfectly. A Batman who is hard, old, and caring. This story is also pretty political and has a lot to think about in an almost apocalyptic feeling world that hasn't had Batman return in a long time. When Batman returns there are a lot of news stories about if he is a menace to society or a blessing. Does Batman encourage crime, like when the Joker sees his return and takes a major relapse in his therapy. Does he empower the citizens of Gotham, like when Carrie Kelly takes the mantel of Robin and joins Batman. There is also a big compassion to Superman and Batman, a Hero to America and a Vigilante.
One of the things I enjoyed a lot in this story is Batman's age. He suffers and struggles with this, He has the cunning but no longer has sharp abilities and in the end with his “Death” I think he accepts becoming a teacher so the legacy of Batman can live on and protect Gotham. ~Ashley
After the hit and the misses with the re-birth so far I was actually pretty please with this one. I like Batman so far and his dynamic with Alfred is very strong. If you want a strong Batman I think you need a strong Alfred...People often forget how cool and essential Alfred is to Batman and the Bat-Fam so I'm glad he is in this one with some good scenes.
Anyway, I liked this volume in particular with the dynamics of Gotham they city itself and what it represents. Gotham is the city that made Batman hard but also is what gave Gotham the hero it deserves. Someone who uses fear and darkness to make the city a better place. Interestingly enough this inspires some other heroes who become obsessed with Batman and they care enough about Gotham to [ buy some super powers (hide spoiler)] protect it. They start of nice enough but ultimately fail in the worst kinda way. This is what the city takes from you if your not strong enough to handle some failure. Ultimately Gotham and Gotham girl (finally I know where they came from! I read Batman: Night of the Monster Men before this volume) wills are broken. The only way to fix Gotham is to destroy it then realizing that Batman IS Gotham. Pretty awesome to think of Gotham, a place and also a Hero, has it's own dynamics with characters. It's also amazing to think about Batman really having such a big impact on the citizens of Gotham that they want to protect the city also.
I'm very interested to see where this is going...Will there be more Heroes/ Villains that are untrained and have their own version of justice? What will happen when normal citizens can obtain powers? ~Ashley
The only thing that kinda confuses me is this seems to be leading into Batman: Night of the Monster Men which kinda read like a climax ...are they related?
This is a great book the story and illustrations are beautiful. This book is about a young vampire who is determined to be a ballerina and has a challenge of fitting in with her class. Through her hard work, practice, and support from her family she reaches her goal and earns the respect and friendship of her peers.
I love the illustration, I like how you can tell in the world that these creatures exist and people are still kinda weary of, I love how it's a bright character who likes to wear black, and I love how each of the family members have something they like to do that is artistic (sculpture, reading, painting, etc)
If you really like this book I recommend The Princess in Black
~Ashley
I liked this enough. I like the different perspective to try to deduce who the killer is by what the characters know and also getting to go deeper into their life. The main character was hard to like but her thought process I thought was pretty relatable when she self sabotages herself or starts to get paranoid.
Had a nice narrator
There is always something about memoir/biography stories that I only just like...maybe because if a character makes a mistake or is has a certain characteristic in the book it makes them more human. If a human makes mistakes or has a certain personality it's suppose to be their part of their character. I was wondering if I'd like this one better because it would be illustrated but not really. The illustrations are cute and obviously a lot of care was made into making them. I had a problem where I would really connect with Lucy and agree with them on a lot of things (Don't even get me started on pockets! I'm so happy to know a wedding dress with pockets exists!) but then she seemed somewhat unlikable at certain parts thinking she was making a pathway for a new type of wedding that never has been thought of ever! The biggest thing that bothered me is her wanting a baby so much. I am Tokophobic so when I read things like how her husband doesn't want a baby and she takes OUT her birth control implant, I get very upset. They didn't have a discussion on the book about agreeing to have a child. Her husband didn't want a kid and I thought that was the breaking point of why they broke up originally? I feel like she missed a vital part and just ended up making me upset at the end instead of “hopeful” feeling she wanted to leave off with.
Things I did like in this book are the cute illustrations, a lot of the points she made about weddings, fashion, and society, and that she had a great wedding! I'll probably check out her other books. ~Ashley
I wasn't sure what to think of Rebirth but after reading this I'm actually really excited to read these and entered most of the giveaways on Goodreads hoping to win the next volumes of the DC Heroes. I wasn't a fan of a lot of N52 stuff and strayed away from a lot of the DC heroes for a while. One of my favorite things was actually reading Flashpoint So having Wally in the speed force trying to get free was really awesome! I also nearly cried but Barry Allen again will always save my heart! Good to see Wally West again. ~Ashley
