(4/5 Stars) The first thing that strikes me in this story is the fabulous blue illustrations. The illustrations feel like you're remembering a memory.
Again, one of my favorite genres of reading summer story that involves coming of age. This one is a little on the depressing side of arguing parents and questioning sexuality. There is a lot of things to think about such as..babies! Yes, kinda a weird theme but it is pretty dominate in the story. Our main character is an only child and there was a stress in her family where they wanted/didn't want another one, Her friend is adopted, and a girl finds herself pregnant that they don't personally know but talk about. It's interesting to think how these things are related and tied into the story.

I think this would be a great conversation starter for parents and young adults to read and discuss together. There is a lot of emotion and you could discuss that natural curiosity and feelings will occur, to defiantly stay away from duds, discuss pregnancy and how to have safe sex, consent, and I thought one of the things they did a nice job of doing is discussing sexism and slut shaming. Excellent read and I recommend it highly if you want to have a conversation about growing up with your kid and have it be a discussion instead of an awkward “Bird Bee” type of classroom speech. ~Ashley

This is a good book about letting kids be who they are and let them explore what they like. Illustrations are very cute! ~Ashley

This is a super fun book, it captures a summer pride parade in full swing! The illustrations and colors are vibrant and charming! Be sure to read the back for additional information about pride and the lgbt+ community. I especially recommend this book if you want to start talking with a child about pride events, lgbt+ community, and the rights movement. Check this book out for yourself!

This book is on the 2018 banned book list and we encourage reading at the library!

This book is a story told with only pictures about a small circus clown who falls off the train and is waiting for his family to return while a nearby farmer takes care of him. The pictures clearly convey the personalities of each character and the ending is heart warming. You can order this book at the Colona Public Library! ~Ashley

The art style in this book is absolutely striking! The world is monochromatic except for our last remaining ‘hero' Deadpool. This art style brings out a very dread and dreary feeling that really makes Deadpool feel like the only hope left. [ There is a part when Deadpool gets bitten but the healing factor has not kicked in yet and he becomes a zombie. He still has thoughts in his head and is causing havoc. The art is really has an impact because he is drained of color in a panic and then slowly regains himself and his red comes back. AHH beautiful! (hide spoiler)] Pretty great book! The ending was quite a surprise and I'm hoping to see a second book. ~Ashley

This book was really good, a friend recommended it to me and after reading Snotgirl, Vol. 1: Green Hair Don't Care I was convinced it was going to be my next read. I wasn't disappointed, I love the art style, the story is compelling, the world building is awesome, and Katie as a likable yet complex character that can't handle owning up to mistakes or taking responsibility now that she knows that she can get second chances. I LOVE the title of this book because of seconds dealing with having seconds of a meal (Cause Katie is a cook) and seconds of getting second chances. The appropriateness of the title didn't really hit me till I got about half-way through. Great read, I would recommend to YA+ readers. ~Ashley

I was admiring the cover and that's what made me pick up this book series, I've gotten the next 2 volumes of Hinterkind and all of them have amazing cover art. It got me really excited to read them after seeing the cover of the book so, when I finished reading the book and I was completely disappointed. This throws us into a world with no explanation and just comes off as completely confusing. The opening I thought was nice setting up some dystopian type future. I like that central park, a place to enjoy nature, became the town surrounded by nature and ruins. I like them passing the alice statue so it foreshadows some fantasy is about to happen in this time. Then it completely falls apart from there. There are no really established rules to the fantasy we're looking at so it just comes off as having no ground to stand on, no idea what this time period is suppose to be? With the ruins of New York should mean more time has passed than just 7 months! (I only know it's been 7months from the description) Did magic return the cities to forests? How much technology do they have? What's the time period? If so there should be some kind of history that tells/shows us that. Do they want humans for slaves, food, or revenge? Not very clear.

The characters are a bit blank, that wouldn't be too bad if there was a strong story and world of fantasy to explore. I'm interested in the concept of fantasy creatures waiting to take back their world again. I'm going to try one more volume to see if they can get this story off the ground.

The art I didn't think was too bad, the cover art was gorgeous! I like the concept and I hope it picks up soon. ~Ashley

If you want to dive into a fantastical world with unusual creatures and a ton of story I recommend Saga, Vol. 1 (This book is for mature readers)

I like this volume. If you especially a fan of Toph you will probably love this volume! The story seems to focus on setting up the world that you see when Korra becomes the avatar with the society and spirits. ~Ashley

If you like the Adventure Time television show you will enjoy these graphic novels. This volume Bubblegum's creation has gone out of control and it is up to PB and Marcelline to try to stop this gum wad terror. I like this one particularly out of the other 4 volumes I have read. The cover art at the end of the book is creative and so much fun to look at in detail. You can order this from the Colona Public Library. ~Ashley

Tells a story the way words couldn't capture. I love these short scary stories and art style!

An amazing graphic novel with a series of scary short stories. I enjoyed this book very much, the art work spoke to you and frightened you in a way that text alone could never do. You won't put this beautiful book down! You can order this material at the Colona Public Library. ~Ashley

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this book. I would flip back and forth between if I liked it or not. The story is set up nicely, I was invested in Mim's journey to reunite with her mother but I never felt fully invested in Mim...Just the plot. ~Ashley

If you read this book you know Mim has some Native American heritage and so I was wondering if her war paint was appropriate and a good representation. There is an open letter you can read about it here

This book is on the banned book list this year! Every year I celebrate banned book week by reading a book off the yearly list. At our library we like to have the freedom to read! I thought this book was well spoken and tackled perhaps a confusing subject for kids, very nicely and respectfully. I didn't particularly like the stereotypical society “boy stuff” and “girl stuff” bits, though I felt it still was a good introduction. ~Ashley

It was nicely illustrated, but after reading some reviews it sounds like they have whitewashed Jazz. I could understand if they based a character off of her, but it is literally about her?

Just a neat flip through book.

This was ok. If you're kinda interested in redwall this shortened story will give you an idea what it's about. If you've read the book or have seen the PBS Redwall animated series (which I highly recommend! Wow, it's super good.) you may feel it's way too short. I love the it's a graphic novel but I super wish this was in color. The nature greens and the light and dark tones they could have used would have been amazing. It's all black and white and lovely shaded and you can see the nice effort put into it. ~Ashley

I've actually finished all of Samurai Jack and it's final season. I'd like to revisit this again

OLD REVIEW - So, I never had cable as a kid and only got to watch a couple of episodes of Samurai Jack....wow was I missing out on something spectacular! I'm watching it recently (I'm on Season 2) since it returned to adult swim. This book is really nice, I feel like the art style vivid colors are beautiful and the few panels really have the Samurai Jack feel to them. A couple of the stories have the same vibe of the episodes. Sometimes I feel this book looks really busy. If I see the next graphic novel I will probably pick it up. ~Ashley

My first experience with She-Hulk was actually in Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat!, Volume 1: Hooked On A Feline and she was this really cool superhero lawyer. She's still a good character but I just thought the story of this book was ok. I think someone who enjoys Hellcat would enjoy this book much more than I did.

On thing that really disappointed me was that the Cover art is beautiful and the interior art is completely different, I feel lied to. The 1st part of the books art is completely disappointing and the 2nd half of the book is a dramatic art style that has some crazy perspective that doesn't really fit the story and lawyer character they have but isn't necessarily bad just unfitting. ~Ashley

This book is the revelation! I have learned so much about the death industry, different cultures rituals, and about the human body after death. Caitlin has a good attitude towards death (which is refreshing!) And even has a youtube called ‘Ask a mortician'. This is a great read, there is nothing put in just for shock value or to purposefully gross you out, everything is important to what she means to say. this book will really get you started into thinking about your own mortality and how we should be changing our death culture in America.

This is like a boy and his dog type story but it's a fox and it kinda has a nice spin on it! Instead of it just being concentrated on the boy it switches between the boy and the fox each chapter. So one chapter would be about the boy and the next would be about the fox. Each character has its time to grow and develop and they really did a nice job on that. The boy learns to find his core and stand up for what he believes is right after many trials and the fox learns how to be wild and free after going through his own trials. This book is very good at bring things full circle which is kinda a strength and a weakness. They talk about how many things are considered one thing even though they could be completely different (I already forgot what it's called) and then bringing a theme full circle again really brings out that point they want to make...it also makes the plot very predictable. [Like when he throws the toy, once to trick him another time to set him free. That's the biggest one. And there seemed to be a theme with things loosing a leg? Like his leg was injured, runt lost his, and the old lady also lost hers...like idk if that was suppose to mean anything? Did I miss some symbolism? Let me know what you think. (hide spoiler)] This was a little slow, If I was reading it I probably would have been annoyed so I'm glad I got the audio book because the narration was very nicely done and I didn't notice too much.

I really am not a big fan of boy and his “dog” stories but this one is really excellent I thought. I thought it had some refreshing ideas and good character development.
