Still one of my favorite series going on today with a surprise! My favorite spiderman Miles made an appearance! I love the that this issue was fun but then surprise again! Also filled with some extreme emotional things going on in the end that got me on the brink of tears. I'm not at all a fan of the cover but the art style inside is fantastic. I liked a ton of things in this volume but I don't feel much for Captain Marvel. I know she's important to Ms.Marvel but in these and past volumes I never really felt they were close enough to make the impact like it should have. Another thing is I feel like Ms.Marvel was learning how to prioritize better about putting her family and friends and learn to balance both lives better, but I guess she needs to work on this a little harder. I liked in this issue how we got her family history and learned more about how important her bracelets are and I also like meeting more of her extended family.
I grabbed an audio book of this and was delighted to hear Mindy's voice narrating it! I really do not read too many memoir type books but I REALLY liked this one a lot! I was laughing often and it was short & sweet! ~Ashley
I continue to love this series, especially the illustrations by Fiona Staples. The writing for Brian is a little bit of a hit or miss for me. I've read a few of the other works and usually not a fan, Saga seems to be the exception. This volume's writing for the children's dialogue felt really really awkward. Last volume they had a surprise pregnancy, this volume they're finding a way to deal with it. It's honestly not an exciting volume for me, I'm hoping to see a better one next time.
If you have tokophobia, this issue may be a bit much to handle. You'll be following a pregnant protagonist, this issue also deals with pregnancy complications and abortion. Just a heads up!

This book got me to crack up...maybe has some dark undertones.. maybe sometime the look in the character's eyes and the silent page..sometimes i think maybe it's something sinister is going on in this book and it keeps me thinking about it still today
I love Brian K. Vaughan's Saga series soooo much but I usually seem to end up disappointed when I read some of his other works. This one I thought was also disappointing. The story is about lions who have escaped the zoo after an attack. Instead of maybe having a powerful outsider looking in approach or having the lions represent the ordinary citizens of Baghdad, they are just lions who seem to have human society cliches attached to them. I really felt the characters of the lions where poor and I feel like this work (similar to Y: The Last Man, Vol. 1: Unmanned) the women were silly, don't get along, or weak when there was a challenge but the male was not. I also don't know how long this story was being told, was it over a day or week or month? They tried to say something maybe profound at the end but whatever they wanted to set up seemed muddled because the story and characters were messy.
I thought this was interesting since it was based on a true event and I thought the art was nice. ~Ashley
An evil cereal company is taking magic from magical creatures that it bases its mascots off of is such an interesting concept. While I was on speech team many of the OC (orginal comedies) competitors really like to perform about cereal mascots too. The things I love about Adam Rex is his follow through. You can read something and it will catch up with you later, it is such a unique feeling almost like deja vu.
This story bounces from artist/authors and the contribute to this overall story. Really interesting
This book is based off some real penguins at the Central Park Zoo who are partners and took in an egg. It's a sweet story of a couple of penguins finding each other, taking care of an egg, and raising a family. ~Ashley
This book feels like a coming of age story about finding your identity. Something I really loved about this book was that the three stories that are being told are actually part of each other. Wow! I didn't expect it! The ending feels a bit incomplete and open ended. This is a great read and I recommend it! ~Ashley
An awesome thing I noticed the Gene Luen Yang also worked on the Avatar: The Last Airbender graphic novels I just finished!
would bounce back and forth about really liking this book to eh, I like this book... many times. It's probably more of a 3.5 for me. I could relate a lot to Liz and the illustrations of this book are really nicely done. I think it's really important that this book addresses gender and how stupid society norms can really be. I liked its message ultimately. It was a great book about coming of age and I would recommend it to all and young middle grade readers especially! ~Ashley
I remember being meh about this...maybe dm'ing my own campaign i'll get the ref for monsters/feats/classes and etc. I'll have to give it a re-read sometime
A graphic memoir of Peter SÍs growing up as a young artist behind the iron curtain. This is short memoir and I really wish it was longer the combination of words and artist illustration creates powerful imagery to go with this time in history. I highly recommend this to young readers learning about the cold war or has an interest in history. ~Ashley
This book has amazing illustrations all the way through and the designs for the Greek God characters are great, I especially love the unique idea for Poseidon! I really enjoyed reading through this piece I tend not to like heavily Greek themed Wonder Woman as much but I thought it was engaging.
I think Wonder Woman represents a lot to female representation so I was disappointed that she is just another daughter of Zeus, instead of being sculpted from love and then blessed by goddess. I feel it takes away from her. Another thing that didn't take away from the book, just an annoyance, was that they introduced a many characters unnecessarily naked. Like Hera wearing only a beautiful peacock cloak or zeus fighting naked. Not really practical.
This was quite the adventure, fleeing from their island and making it to london, following peculiar folklore, and being introduced to new peculiar children! I was listening to the audiobook of this story and i must say the accents really highlight the setting. It is a little less engaging since it has none of the peculiar pictures as you read. My audiobook did include a pdf file of the pictures. Jacob's powers have taken an interesting turn
The title of the book makes me a little mad. This book is a memoir of someone who was “friends” with Dahme only in high school. I say “friends” because the author and his friends treated him like a joke and basically kept him around because he was kinda like a mascot. The author seems to blame the adults that did not help him but never seemed to question what his impact was in Dahmer's life. They seemed to abandon Dahmer in the roughest point in his life. Maybe I'm thinking to much into it, maybe the 70s were different times, or maybe some things didn't get written down or not recollected? You shouldn't have to keep people in your life that scare you. That being said there was also no way that I believe that they were friends, it feels like when he started to fall into drinking they just tossed him aside instead of at least once talking to him. I wish the author did a little more self reflection so I could understand their relationship better, it felt to me completely one sided.
Otherwise the author put a lot of thought into this memoir. The illustration has a ton of work put into it. At the back of his book you can read all the notes and references he used to help create his story and remember his timeline from high school. He even went back to Dahmer's house when he was invited after it was bought and did sketches of it to use as reference to make this book! This is interesting to get a new perspective on this famous serial killer. Dahmer is a very fascinating person, when he was caught he was very honest with psychologists and interviews. If you ever have time you can find full interviews with him on youtube. ~Ashley
Coming of age story, perfect for middle grader read and has some theater ties!

Callie is in middle school and loves theater! She has both some difficulties in life and onstage. There are some great messages, awesome art, and this book is fun!
as I was reading this book I couldn't help but reminisce about my times in the theater. This book perfectly depicts what it's like working backstage. You can pick this book up at the Colona Public Library. ~Ashley
I was so impressed with Manapul's artstyle it was a giant reason why I enjoyed this graphic novel. This is the #1 Flash in the new 52series and they relied on exposition a lot to give us characterization. If this is your first flash comic it does not do Barry Allen justice! Please read other comic so you can see the relationship that Captain Cold and Flash has, The relationship of the Rogues, You know the importance of Cold's sister, and you can get a feel Barry Allen's personality is so much more complex besides just nice.
If you have read Flash comics before this one you will have a more enjoyable experience. If this is your first flash comic I would recommend getting a few older one's so you can learn more about the characters
Pretty good read if you are thinking about doing a podcast and covers all the basics nicely. This one has a CD with some software included. If you are wondering what is on the CD there is a page with the information. ~Ashley
This was such a drippy upper elementary/middle school read... it was rough. But, it's written exactly who is was made for because they get checked out like crazy!
Read this on audiobook (which was good)
Reads like a fairy tale and is nicely layered like The Girl Who Drank the Moon. I feel like this ended a bit abruptly but I enjoyed reading this. Also the narrator to the audiobook did a fine job!
~Ashley
I love this concept of batman being a vampire and fighting vampires. I like this elsewhere story a lot and the art is decent, sometimes the art style looks weird like close ups of Alfred's face and there is a point where cat-woman falls into a river and her clothes melt off? But if you want to see Batman at his most brutal you should probably pick up this volume because it has all 3 of the vampire Batman tales. ~Ashley
This novel is beautifully illustrated, I think I spent more time looking at this book than I did reading it. Very interested mermaid folklore and really kept my full interest entirely
