I understand when others mention this book as slow and dense and it was hard for me to like Bjartur. However, I miss Iceland and this book was perfect to take me back for another 2 weeks. I loved the writing and narration style, João Reis did an amazing job translating it, I could feel each seasonal change and the hardship of such a desolate place. It also made me think about my own parents and how country life and poverty can be very similar in very different countries. Halldór Laxness definitely won a special place in my heart, can’t wait to read more from him.
