I absolutely loved the smut and the relationship of the two MCs - the FMC trying and failing to resist the MMC, the MMC being her biggest supporter but also her biggest manipulator and then FMC eventually being just as obsessed with the MMC as he is with her. Those fights where FMC threatens to leave him or suffer from the heat just to spite the MMC and the MMC reacting with anger were so good, with the MMC going absolutely feral over her.
I would have loved to see more scenes of the scenting/drumming.
The second half took the book in a direction I didn't like however which ruined the book. The plot about the FMC having special genes and her daughter being destined for one of the 3 old generals was too weird and ick for my taste. And then all of the female side characters getting pregnant to change society and patriarchy... also too weird for me.
The MMC could have been more manipulative though, I feel like he was more watered down in this book and I enjoyed his dark side more
It's a shame because it was definitely looking like a 4 or 5 stars read
Torn on 3 or 4 stars for this but enjoyed the book overall. The MMC hits all the spots with tropes I like in dark romance - all those scenes where the MMC gets jealous were brilliant, he manipulates the circumstances so that the FMC gets together with him and goes morally grey to ensure she can never leave him after. He's so possessive over the FMC, he even holds her captive when she tries to leave.
The smut was more brief I would have liked and not as spicy. I liked the two MCs well enough though I didn't love them both. The grief storyline also wasn't something I enjoyed that much.
I like this one so much better than God of War and God of Malice but it progressively got more unreasonable and I lost interest
I love how protective of each other the Sokolov family is (yes I'm going to ignore the ending, more on that later), the sibling dynamics was so cute. And I absolutely loved the cameo appearances of Rai and Kyle in video calls. Nikolai especially doted on Mia so much despite how violent he is to everyone else.
I hate that Rina Kent made Mia mute, haunted by mental trauma and weak in this book. Mia really had the potential to be badass mini Rai and it was like that at the start with the pig blood prank but then it went downhill from there. She makes verbal threats which are amusing, but she has no offensive or self defence skills, which is unbelievable as someone who has both parents as mafia leaders and knows their ways around guns. Mia was so easily manhandled by everyone in the story, especially Landon
Although I did like Landon and Mia's chemistry at the start, I didn't like how Mia really let him completely overpower and manhandle her for months. Again, mafia princess? No self defence skills? No body guards after the kidnapping incident where the culprit was never found? She was a complete pushover and so weak... there was a blowjob scene that came out of nowhere.
And strangely not even anyone in the college mafia crew suspected what was happening between the two for months? Especially given how protective Nikolai is of his sisters and the bodyguards should definitely have noticed Mia didn't return home sometimes. It was just so unrealistic.
Jeremy even saw Mia being overpowered by Landon in one of the scenes - just let her fight him on her own and then let him drag her away just like that? Didn't think to stop him or defend her? I get he had his eyes on Cecily but Jeremy didn't have bodyguards? Didn't think to tell her brother, his best friend? Then surprisingly, Jeremy was shocked as anyone else when Landon revealed he'd be dating Mia. Really?
It's also so hard to believe Rai and Kyle would not have caught the culprit that kidnapped Mia being who they are. We're talking about Kyle Hunter who can order an hit on anyone with just a first name.
And Mia too scared of the culprit to name them because a culprit might kill anyone she reveals their name too? Come on! Your parents are mafia leaders! A nanny killing Rai Sokolov and Kyle Hunter is virtually impossible.
And then for the culprit to easily sneak into a mafia household guarded by body guards in the end? And the culprit is shot by Landon of all people in a house full of bodyguards and mafias? Come on.
I also really didn't buy Maya being the reason why Mia was kidnapped in the first place. I get that it was supposed to be a plot twist but I really didn't buy it.
RK also turned Kyle into a cliche over protective father in law in the end. And how is it possible Kyle didn't push Landon to tell him what he knew about Mia's kidnapping despite Kyle and Rai viewing the mystery as their biggest failure and being desperate to cure Mia? That made zero sense as well.
This couple really had potential but the watering down of the mafias' capabilities and the unreasonable plot ruined it for me.
I really really wanted to like this since I really loved some of RK's stories. But I was so bored once the FMC and MMC arrived at college - which was only a few chapters in. I really had to force myself to read to get any further.
The FMC and MMC both bored me and I didn't see any chemistry. The FMC had no personality and was annoying. The MMC had no charisma though he was interesting at the start.
The book was also so long with not much plot going on except laying the foundations of other couples for the rest of the series.
If it weren't for the fact this was the first book of the series and I didn't want to miss snippets of some of the parents, I would have DNF this a few chapters in
Remi was hilarious though with his dramatic antics and I did find Ava's bubbly character adorable. I'm also excited about her chemistry with Eli. I was living for all the references to the parents - especially Reina, Rai, Kyle and Aiden.
Gareth, Killian and Asher all adoring Reina just made my heart melt
I'm also really liking how protective Nikolai and Killian is of Mia as their little sister. And I'm curious how her relationship with Landon will develop.
Not enjoying Annika and Cecily. Annika is annoying and Cecily... she's supposed to come across as spunky yet mature but not a fan
I wonder why Mia was mute... she definitely spoke in the Thrones duet. I hate how RK did this to her to make the legacy of gods world more interesting... I was really looking forward to Rai's children
I liked the book okay - for most of the book I was on the fence about 2 or 3 stars, I didn't exactly like it or dislike it but the ending with the necklace, took it to 3 stars for sure. I loved how manipulative the MMC was - both MMC and FMC were likeable enough and the plot interesting enough to hold my attention.
I did find it slower in the beginning, the MMC took until 10% to show up but it was better after. The smut in this was always shorter than I'd like.
Wouldn't reread but liked it well enough
DNF 20%. Surprisingly, the writing style is engaging despite 600 pages, I was enraptured from the beginning. However I disliked both the MMC and FMC. They had no chemistry. In fact, the only reason why I kept reading was I was hoping someone other than Nixon was the MMC. I thought it'd be Tyrone and then Flynn.
20% is when I realised the MMC is Nixon and I did not want the MCs together. In fact, I hope the FMC runs far far away
I was pretty torn on 1 or two stars. The first scene caught my interest from the start but eventually I got bored about a third in. I only continued to see if it picked up but it didn't. I didn't feel like I cared about any of the characters and didn't feel any chemistry between the FMC or any of the other characters. I don't think the writing was descriptive enough either. I think it was supposed to be smutty but it didn't read that way as the scenes weren't really spicy. The ending was also predictable.

Dark romance though not really dark. I liked the plot and characters well enough but didn't like the conflict in the middle. It just seemed like too simple of a misunderstanding. I also wish this book was darker. We saw a hint of the male lead's dark side because he was so obsessed with his mate but he just gave up and didn't go through with it.
Wouldn't reread though I did like the vampire/blood drinking aspect, fated mates and a male lead utterly obsessed with the female lead.
Pretty torn on 1 or 2 stars. I didn't exactly hate it but I didn't like it either. I got bored pretty quickly and was so tempted to DNF but kept going because it was a short story. After finishing it, I think I could have DNFed it.
I like reading fun smutty novellas but nothing really happened in this book and the smut wasn't spicy enough to hold my interest
This was a solid 3 or 4 stars until the secondary male character was suddenly paired off. There was such great chemistry between the female lead and secondary male lead as well as the female lead and male lead. I was really enjoying the love triangle
The suddenly pairing seemed so forced and a convenient way to get rid of him. Like the secondary male character's love for the female lead just fizzled out like that?
I loved how manipulative the male lead is, the way he seemed to always be able to get the female lead where he wants her to be and outmanoeuvred her.
However, after the secondary lead was out of the picture, he became the most frustrating person ever. His reason for pushing the female lead away was so stupid and cliche - he was so hot and cold I wanted the female lead to break up with him or at least make him grovel. But the female lead always ended up coming back to him at his beck and call like she had no self worth. I love doormat FMCs but even this was too much for me
As much as I liked the male lead's obsession and his chemistry with the female lead, the leads were so frustrating I didn't want them together. The MMC was a very cliche “I'm not good enough for the FMC”. I'm undecided if I'll even read the second book
DNF 19%. Didn't vibe with the MMC, FMC or the writing. I felt like the plot was dragging. I don't typically like monster romances though there have been some I still really liked. This unfortunately wasn't one of them
Short spicy omega verse novella. It does have some typos and I can't say it was the most memorable because there's not a lot of info provided about the MCs but fun short read
Really liked the main leads and their romance. Plot engaging. Solid 4 stars. The smut was good and I loved how obsessed the male lead was with the female lead as well as their whole dynamic.
The plot in this was good too though I enjoyed the romance more. The male lead's pining in this book was everything
I loved this one - a really fun smutty read with an obsessed over the top male lead. My only complain is this was too short - the book cut off just after the main couple get together when I would have loved more smutty goodness with them together. Devoured in one sitting. Definitely would reread. Torn between 4 or 5 stars
Innocent female lead, age gap, breeding kink, lactation kink and a male lead that will get jealous at anyone who looks at the female lead with friendly intent.
I did like the epilogues, it was really cute.
However, the plot, romance and writing of this book were all just OK.
I found myself skimming through the book instead of reading to find out what happens but I wasn't liking the direction of the plot
This is a second chance romance in a school setting where both leads are teachers. I felt there was no build up to the romance at all. Despite it being a second chance romance, there is no angst or pining.
I'm also not a fan that the ending was Callie deciding the executive director role in the city wasn't her dream and wanted to move back to the small town to settle down with the male lead.
The book was a quick average read, fun and spicy enough to finish but I wouldn't say it was that good. The MMC wasn't the type of character I'd swoon over and I was indifferent to the FMC. What kept this going is their dynamics and the spice
DNF 69%. I really tried to push through this book since it's not long but it never hooked me from the start and even while I was reading, I just wanted to put it down. I didn't care about the characters, I didn't really feel their chemistry and I didn't find the smut spicy.
I couldn't deal with them starting to play act their first meeting for a revenge sex tape. It felt really cringe and that was the last straw for me.
I didn't find the MMC likeable at all and I don't think the chemistry was there. DNF about 70%-80% and skim read the rest
I probably should have DNF earlier but I really wanted to like this book since it's highly praised on dark romance social media posts.
DNF 50%. I was so bored the entire time reading - it was so slow. There were constant flash backs to 3 years ago but whether it's the past or present, I felt like nothing was happening nor was I curious. There was no romance happening either and I didn't care for any of the characters in the book
Torn between 3-4 stars. This is heavy on plot and light on romance. The plot is good though I loved and lived for the romance that is in it. The main couple, their love and dynamics is everything. The smut as always in this series is really good. The male lead is just so obsessed with the female lead I love it.
DNF 57%. I didn't find the characters likeable and didnt buy their chemistry or the story but I tried to stick it out because so many people have raved about it and I wanted to find out what the lighthouse was hiding. I just got so bored that I had to stop reading however.
The plot wasn't bad, different but I didn't really enjoy it. I didn't care for the MMC, FMC or any single one of the side characters. I probably should have DNF but I was intrigued enough about how the romance and plot would develop that I kept going. Unfortunately the MMC and FMC didn't have much chemistry and the plot isn't interesting for me to continue onto the second book.
