In this warm collection of personal essays and recipes, best-selling author Ann Hood “connects food with memory in delicious ways” (Jane Ciabattari, BBC). From her Italian-American childhood, through raising and feeding a growing family and cooking with her new husband, food writer Michael Ruhlman, Ann Hood has long appreciated the power of good food. In Kitchen Yarns, pairing her signature humor and tenderness with simple, comforting recipes, Hood spins tales of loss and starting from scratch, family love and feasts with friends, and how the perfect meal is one that tastes like home.

Kitchen Yarns is the story of writer Ann Hood's life told through her remembrances of the foods she ate and prepared. Hood suffered many terrible losses in her life, including the sudden death of her brother, the tragic death of her young daughter, and the death of her father. Food was the constant, and, over time, it was the soothing acts of preparing food that helped her through difficult times more than almost anything else.
Some of the recipes Hood shares in the book that I am most interested in trying include The Perfect Omelet; Mary's Peach Pie; French Scrambled Eggs; NoHo Chicken Enchiladas; My Perfect Spaghetti Carbonara; and Gogo's Chicken Salad.
