Even though this book doesn't have the best rating here, I was still interested in reading it. (After all, a couple of my favorite books weren't so well loved.) I love time travel - though I never understood why you'd want to take someone from a different, more interesting time, and dump them in the modern world, instead of the other way ‘round.
Anyhow, tried the preview and...ugh. Elias is such a brat. I'm all for characters that have to grow and develop over time, but they have to have some little thing right away that makes me think that, yeah, this is a character I want to see develop. Elias is not such a character. (Also, I question the synopsis, because it doesn't give any indication that Elias needs to grow up - just that he needs an adventure.)
Tyler is less terrible, (mostly because he's quieter) but I disliked him pretty much from the start, too, with his feeling like he doesn't want to get involved in life and his ‘must be nice to belong to someone' (paraphrasing only slightly). (I would like to give bonus points to the fact that Tyler is very, very bi.)
(Side note: Elias pretty much hates his parents because they are too serious and severe and actually are trying to get him to take responsibility for his actions and Tyler calls his stepmother ‘the Evil Stepmother' because she's spending his dead dad's money on herself.)
Finally, I love historical romances. I just do. Most of my knowledge of Regency or Victorian England comes from them, so take this with a grain of salt. Elias does not feel like a historical character and his (early) chapters do not feel like they are taking place in a historical time period.
