If anyone touches her in anyways, death will come swiftly. And I am the reaper."

I am here for this trope! Bow Before the Elf Queen consists of many tropes that I enjoyed so much and I am here for it.

Layala Lightbringer is a badass FMC who has been training her whole life against Thane Athayel, the High Elf King, and her powerful mate. BTW, Thane is also a badass MMC. She's ready to avenge her parents' wrongful execution to give her freedom but Thane makes it impossible for her to slay him because he's got a secret of his own.

I absolutely LOVE the banter between Layala and Thane. The side characters are amazing specially Fennan, Piper, and Tifapine.  Tifapine!! My favorite gnome,I want a gnome just like her! She is just so adorable and I could talk so much about her. I love Thane and Fennan's friendship.

Love was a powerful force. It could not be bought. It could not be taken or stolen. Although sometimes it must be fought for, it must be given freely.

“Only that I love you. With my heart and my soul, today and tomorrow. I will never get enough of you.”    “Love is too weak an emotion to describe how she consumes me and what I feel for her. She is my everything.”    ✑ I have to admit that I was kind of scared going into this book, after everything that I've heard BUT it's JLA and I absolutely love her books so here we are.    ✑ Casteel's POV is everything! That man worships Poppy and I am here for it all. But it's also really nice to see what he thinks about everything really. I cannot wait until we see more of his POV.    ✑ I love Poppy and Kieran's relationship but I absolutely am here for Casteel, Poppy, and Kieran's dynamics. I love that they all have each other. Kieran was there for Poppy when Cas was not around, Kieran was there for both Poppy and Cas. Poppy was there for Kieran and Cas. I just absolutely LOVE them and their trust, friendship, and more. Cas loves Kieran, different from the way he loves Poppy but not that different and YOU CAN SEE THAT.    “You're Penellaphe Da'Neer and you're fearless”    YAS, QUEEN! YOU ARE!    ✑ Poppy, my queen! I love her character development and her relationships with the wolvens, specially Delano! I ADORE DELANO ♡ I've been as emotional as Poppy when reading TWoTQ, I felt her pain and her rage which is why I am so glad that she's surrounded by people she loves. Poppy is learning still and learning that there are different kinds of love.    ✑ I LOVE THE DRAKENS! And the banter between Kieran and Reaver-butt ♡    ✑ WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SNAKES? Poppy, I would accompany you on top of that boulder because SNAKES!    ✑ I got so scared during the fight with Isbeth when THAT happened (I literally cried)My brain: NO NO NO NO  The relief I felt afterward, I can't even put to words.  My brain: Thank the f**k!    “Her name is a shadow in the ember, a light in the flame, and the fire in the flesh.”    NGL, I can't wait for ALITF to come out!

❝Because life isn't always tidy. We don't always have the answers we want, and love isn't always pretty.❞
✑ Holy crap! That ending! I freakin knew it (kinda, sorta)!
✑ Okay, let me start at the beginning.
✑ What Lies Beyond the Veil is dark, adult fantasy meant for 18+. Do look at the TRIGGER WARNINGS for this book. Good news is as soon as you open the book TWs are there as well more information about characters/Gods/ whatever (which I love).
✑ Estrella and Caelum is the two MCs in this book. Estrella lives such an abusive life in the hands of Lord Byron which I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE. Prior to meeting our mysterious Caelum, Estrella lives in a place called Mistfell near the Veil (which is the border that separates the Fae world and Human world). The day the Veil shattered Estrella goes on a run, leaving everything she's known, to avoid death by the Mist Guard since it has been discovered that she has been marked by the Fae. While on the run she meets our mysterious Caelum (who I absolutely love) even though we don't really know much about him.
❝You do not want to consider what I'll do if someone tries to take you from me.❞
❝If you want to watch the world burn, I'll set it on fire fire you.❞
✑ Caelum saves Estrella from the Mist Guard and the Wild Hunt. Caelum is mysterious through and through but my gods I can't deny that I love his possessiveness/protectiveness over Estrella. He is THE ALPHAHOLE. A controlling, possessive, alphahole but is he my favorite character? YES, HE IS. I love his unashamed, sarcastic flirtations that makes Estrella (and me) fluster. He does not hold back and I absolutely love him for it!

⚠️ Please look up some TW for this book because there's definitely some triggers for some people. ⚠️

✑ An Ember in the Ashes is a YA dystopian world with a hint of fantasy. The brutal world of An Ember in the Ashes is inspired by Ancient Rome that follows Laia and Elias's POV in 3rd person. Laia is a slave. Elias is a soldier but neither of them is free.

✑ The world that Laia lives in is controlled under the Martial Empire. You either vow to the Empire or risk execution and destruction. When Laia's brother is arrested for treason, she had to make a decision to save her brother. Laia seeks the rebels who promise to rescue her brother in exchange of her life in a risk.

✑ I enjoyed Laia's journey throughout this book. Everything that she went through for her brother was heartbreaking. I love her character from beginning to end. She's not your typical strong FMC, she's portrayed as weak and scared of what she has to do BUT her character development was amazing! She's definitely not as weak as she thinks she is.

✑ Then there's Elias, whose beliefs does not align with the Empire. A soldier who secretly wants to be free from the Empire. The trials that he had to go through and those were brutal! Honestly, the entire Blackcliff school is messed up.

✑ There were some very suspicious characters that I absolutely had a hard time trusting even though they were supposedly “good”. Are there intentions really good?

✑ Lastly, I somehow like Elias's grandfather (he doesn't seem too bad, I think). Maybe? But I do absolutely HATE the Commandant, she is just evil! But I know we'll definitely see more of her.

✑ I honestly really enjoyed this book and the characters journey, but then here comes the character's love life which absolutely got on my nerve. Bleeding hells! I do understand that they are young, therefore, a lot are superficial. They're crushing on someone but wanting someone else completely. JUST NO.... Thank the stars it somehow got resolve(ish). The ending of this book was WOW, there was so much going on and I just wanted them to be free! I can't wait to see what awaits Laia and Elias on the next book.

❝You damned men, I swear, you wouldn't know your own ass from a hole in the ground, that's the damned truth.❞

Ember Hall is dying. She's accepted this fact. One day she travels to Ireland as part of her bucket list, while trying to live her best life she stumbles upon a portal. Ember has always had one foot in deaths door, but, she did not expect to end up in the Fae world where she meets the man that has been invading her dreams with his piercing golden eyes and in Embers words sculpted body (Rafferty).
Rafferty is known as a rebel, a murderer, a traitor to the crown. Honestly, he is one broody Fae and I actually liked him from the start. He has good intentions, although, he thinks he does not deserve a second chance. I do love his who did this to you, I'll kill him and I will kill whoever touches you vibe and I'm honestly here for that kind of trope.

❝Because I would let this world burn if it mean saving you.❞

The slow burn is real, like it didn't even happen. Nada. Zilch, which I guess is understandable since they just kinda met even when there is that instant connection, attraction (because duh, they've seen each other in their dreams). I was still kinda hoping for that romance for them.

Kitarni Bárány has always been different. There's darkness in her blood and a destiny beyond her coven. She's got some insecurities of her own. She was “a girl who have been overlooked for so long she hadn't known what it felt like to be seen or heard” until one day she met Dante. Kitarni's character was hard to connect. It took about almost 50-60% in the book before I actually started understanding her. I was so happy to finally see her character development, to see her get out of her cage.
Dante Sándar, lord to be of Mistvellen, part of the Wolfblood Clan, a táltosok and Kitarni's betrothed. I actually really liked him (well at first). I liked his cheekiness and his banter with Kitarni. But then THAT happened and I was like WTF, like really dude?!?
☾ There's a lot of side characters that just comes and go. At first, I thought Death was the love interest but nope. Anyways, I enjoyed seeing the role of Death in this book. I actually kind of like him. The pacing of this book was a little off, sometimes it's fast and engaging while other times it would just slow down. That plot twist though, I mean I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING. The only part I saw coming was about the Banya (kinda sorta).
P.S. There is a language guide at the end of the book for Hungarian pronunciations.
If you like: ☾ Arranged marriage ☾ One bed trope ☾ Enemies to lovers ☾ Hungarian folklore ☾ Witches and dark magic You might enjoy this book.

Through Fire and Ruin is being told by Lora and Amira. Lora comes from Earth while Amira is from the Fae world called Liraen. Lora has been warned about the fae her entire life, but what if her only choice is to go to the fae world to find a cure for the virus that is plaguing humanity? Amira has spent years trapped by her asshole of a brother (Wryen) and her only chance of escape is to be engaged with the soon to be High King of Liraen (Karwyn).

✶ Lora makes a deal with Eyden to cross the border between Earth and Liraen, to find the cure of the plague. Honestly, I prefer reading Lora's POV than Amira, however, I still enjoyed both POV. There was just more going on with Lora than Amira. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE EYDEN because of what he fights for. I enjoyed his banter and interactions with Lora. I do wish that both were more truthful with each other, specially after some time of being in each others company. I also LOVE Eyden's sister Elyssa.Elyssa is a total badass who does not let her hearing impairment get in the way. Then there's Amira's torturous life. I mean can a girl get a break? I truly hope she gets her retribution in the next book!

✶ I initially thought Karwyn was just bad on the surface but deep down he might be good but boy was I wrong! Him and Wryen can both go rot in hell because honestly WTF?!? Then I thought I liked Rhay because he was there for Amira (well most the time) plus his character just seems so fun but then he ignores all the bullshit that is going on in the palace and again WTF!?

❝Love is the one thing that not even fate can contend with.❞

✑ A Shadow in the Embers is essentially a prequel to FBAA since the timeline happens before Poppy and Casteel. Some say that ASITE is similar to FBAA, in a way it is BUT it's also different in its own way. I love Sera's character, her tenacity and outspokenss. She's got more character in her. Of course, I love that she's got so many questions. I truly enjoyed Sera's POV.

✑ Nyktos! Absolutely love him from the start, although there's still so much I'd like to find out about him. I love his protectiveness over what is his. For a primal of death, Nyktos sure does care a lot, and I love that characteristic about him. I ALSO REALLY REALLY LOVE THE DRAKENS. I was as awe as Sera when she first met the drakens, I mean come on, its DRAGONS. Reaver butt and Jadis are too cute.

✑ There was so much revelation in ASITE that had me going “WHAT?!” Also, that ending. I cannot wait for A Light in the Flame to come out.

✑ P.S. I absolutely HATE Queen Calliphe and Tavius (he got what he deserved!).

❝Sometimes when you love someone that much, dying is the least you would do to protect them.❞

✶Who would have thought that I'd read Sci-fi? Definitely not me but hey there's a first time for everything. This book took me by surprise and I actually enjoyed it. I do admit that it started off kinda slow for me.

Cara DeLeon is tired of the daily routine of her life. All she wants to do is get away from it all. On her way home from work, there was an accident on the subway train she was in. When Cara woke up she didn't expect to find herself in the future.

Nikolas Caine is the commander of the confederation fleet in year 2936. He has dedicated his life in protecting the star system against the hostiles. His ship was under attack by the hostiles and Cara is discovered on board.

✶ Cara and Caine had a push/pull relationship. It's like they can't seem to stay away from each other but there's still a force that pulls them from each other. I mean the fact that shes from the past, he's an Esper with a very strict rule on who he marries and all that, there's the fact that bad guys are plotting on hurting everyone he loves, oh did i mention shes from the past!

✶I do however love that Nadir, Than and Zora are all pushing for Caine and Cara to be together and I'M HERE FOR IT! But can Caine and Cara survive the tremendous amount of obstacles?

✶The action/fight scenes was what got my full attention. Did I saw the plot twist coming? Yes and no? I mean what just happened? The betrayal, just wow. Then that ending, I cannot wait to find out what happens next! There's still so much I want to know about Caine. I want see more of Cara and Caine. Here's me hoping for the best on the next book.

❝If something happens to you I'll be forced to rip apart every fae with my bare hands.❞

✑ I have to admit that bought this book because of the cover. I mean look how pretty that is! A Deal with the Elf King is being told in Luella's POV. I like her willingness to help people (magical or not). She is duty bound and will do anything for the people of Capton. Then King Eldas comes in the picture looking for the human queen. Just like Luella, Eldas is also duty bound, however, King Eldas character is more complicated than the cold demeanor he always shows.

✑ The relationship between Eldas and Luella was a slow burn with minimal fade to black spice. There really wasn't strong character development from the MCs. I was just SUPER GLAD that Luella FINALLY, FINALLY followed her heart because that duty bound bullshit was killing me (although I understand her reasoning). I was happy on how it ended PLUSthat bonus chapter was everything! ♡

✶ 𝗭𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗰 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆: 𝗥𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝗲 gives us more than Tory and Darcy's POV. We actually get to see 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗯, 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘂𝘀, 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘅'𝘀 𝗣𝗢𝗩. I honestly don't remember if Seth's POV was even there but IDC but 𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘺 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘢𝘷𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗴𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱! But at the same time, I'm slowly warming up to the celestial heirs? Don't get me wrong what they are doing is still 𝗡𝗢𝗧 justifiable. It's honestly so complicated. My sorta kinda ship kinda sailed? I'm saying that because I'm also shipping Tory with someone else. UGH.

✶ I cannot wait to see what orders the twins are!!! Also, that ending. 𝖶𝗁𝖺𝗍 𝖾𝗏𝖾𝗇 𝗁𝖺𝗉𝗉𝖾𝗇𝖾𝖽 𝗍𝗁𝖾𝗋𝖾? Are they Elysian Mates or what!?!? (That's my other ship by the way).

✶ I'd like to add that 𝗗𝗶𝗲𝗴𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗨𝗦 and I don't know if trust him.

⚠️ 𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗨𝗣 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗧𝗪 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗕𝗘𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 ⚠️

✶ I wouldn't technically describe it as bully romance because that wasn't entirely what I was expecting with bully romance. 𝗪𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴? 𝗬𝗘𝗦 𝗔 𝗟𝗢𝗧 but there wasn't really romance either more like a fling? I don't think they really fell for them YET. Maybe it does eventually turn into bully romance though.

✶ The celestial heirs are aholes and so are the majority of the supernatural attending ZA. 𝗭𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗰 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 reminded me of an adult version of HP but with 𝗔 𝗟𝗢𝗧 of 𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀. There's also the fact that it involves Fae who can shift to different animals/beast/siren/supernatural creatures. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗭𝗔: 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲, 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗶𝗿. You make a mistake and points are taken from the house you belong to (depending on your elemental power) or given if you answered correctly in class. Plus there's the element of Zodiac signs and how each of their personalities stay true to the signs.

✶ It just so happens 𝗧𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗰𝘆 (𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶, 𝗩𝗲𝗴𝗮 𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀) holds all four elemental power therefore they face the wrath of the four celestial heirs, which is actually really uncalled for. The Vega twins have been through so much shit while growing up YET they still go through so much shit to this world that they barely knew. Tory and Darcy are one hell of a strong FMC with a strong sibling bond. Although both are identical twins, I could distinguish which one is who because their personality differs just a tad bit. The bullying they go through is extreme. I can honestly say I hope they get retribution.

✑ It wouldn't be fantasy if the book didn't consist of world building and 𝗧𝗖𝗼𝗚𝗕 has 𝘈 𝘓𝘖𝘛 of it. TCoGB started where AKoFAF ended which was great because I needed to know what happened. There was so much new information that was thrown at Poppy and she took it like a champ! No wonder Casteel is head over heals for her. Cas's admiration for her is everything. 𝘎𝘰𝘥𝘴 𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 (𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘒𝘪𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘯, 𝘋𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘰, 𝘌𝘮𝘪𝘭, 𝘕𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘭, 𝘝𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘢). Poppy has definitely grown so much as a character from where she started and I'm here for it.
✑ The truths and lies are all uncovered (for the most part). There was so many holy shit moments in this book for me.

❝𝘠𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘢 𝘨𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘢𝘧, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘨𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘢𝘧.❞

⚔️ I don't even know how to articulate my thoughts right now... There was so much information being revealed and then that ending was just 𝗪𝗢𝗪! 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙮 𝙉𝙮𝙠𝙩𝙤𝙨!!! I cannot wait to read TCoGB.

⚔️ I definitely enjoyed AKoFaF more than FBAA but let me tell you that I wanted to throw my book at PoppyCas 50% of the time! I was highly frustrated, goddddssss. I was so happy when that moment happened because 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬. 𝘐𝘠𝘒𝘠𝘒

⚔️ I absolutely enjoyed Poppy's character development throughout this book. I loved that she 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 spoke what was in her mind. Poppy has turned into such a badass FMC, not that she wasn't but this just added into. I enjoyed this journey with her, her realizations, all her questions and how awestruck she gets by her surroundings. I love that Cas allows her just to be her. 𝘼𝙣 𝙖𝙗𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙢𝙪𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚.

🗡 Did I mention that I adore Delano and Kieran. I guess Emil isn't so bad either.

❝𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘪𝘴𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 — 𝘐'𝘮 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶.❞

✶ A Night of Wings and Starlight gives us a very strong, badass FMC. Arya has been training her whole life to be chosen and finally the time has come. She does not know what lies outside the mountain, all she wants is freedom, to run outside the mountain. Arya certainly did not expect to meet an alluring yet arrogant winged Watchers, a cursed queen and the possibility of being more than just a runner, carrying messaged through the vampyre infested wasteland of Valdihr.

✶ I instantly fell for Arya's character. She is strong willed and she certainly does not wanna be the damsel in distress. Then we meet Azriel, the alluring winged watcher we mentioned earlier. Az is swoon worthy. I enjoyed Arya and Azriel's banter, I find it kind of cute. The romance was there and certainly some spice. Did this book almost broke my heart and made me shed a little tear? Yes, it did. A Night of Wings and Starlight was an enjoyable book to read with an overall great plot and I cannot wait for book two.

☾ 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝗔𝗥𝗖 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄.

Since I wanted to torture myself with waiting for the 4th book to come out, here we are...

A kingdom of ruin is being told by multiple POV: Finley, Hadriel, Leila and Nyfain. Our mediocre butler Hadriel definitely didn't disappoint in making me laugh out loud literally He is mostly definitely my favorite second character and next would be Leila our awesome lady maid. Leila and her kinks are something else IYKYK. Then there's Hannon, Finley's older brother. Wow, he honestly surprised me and I'm REALLY curious on what kind of shifter he is.

Now to the main MCs. Nyfain, Nyfain, Nyfain. I am utterly devastated for him. That beast (really dragon) needs more love as in self love. He has protected his kingdom, battled demons, lost his wings to protect his kingdom. I mean that man has been through so much and I am so so happy that Finley sees that, sees HIM. Then our badass Finley. Wow! She is strong, an equal to an Alpha. She also has been through so much shit. Finley doesn't back down, she will fight with Nyfain through it all. I am so happy that she was able to fly.

Then there's that ending. Nyfain and Finley has been through so much that I really just want a happy ending for those two!

We'd fought to get here. We'd earned our happy ending, goddammit.
❝ It isn't fair to profit from people who don't have the money to pay when there are lives on the line. Living shouldn't come with a price tag.❞

A Throne of Ruin even gets even spicier that A Ruin of Roses. Finley is as badass as she gets, possibly even more. Hadriel is still as hilarious as ever. He has become my favorite secondary character. I absolutely still hate the Demon King and Jedrick. That ending, that ending. That damn letter! Nyfain. Ugh, I have so much emotions going on right now. Did I actually cry in this book?!? Yes, I certainly did. My poor heart. I am so invested with Finley, Nyfain, Hadriel, and everyone that I just want a happy ending for everybody that deserves it!

P.S. I am just glad that there is no cliffhangers this time... well not as bad as the first one, just some big revelations that will blow your mind CHEERS as Hadriel says.

P.P.S. This book is very heavy on sex way more than the first one.

❝ Life is a battle we cannot win. The question becomes, do we want to go down peacefully, or fight until our last breath? I choose to fight. ❞

cliffhanger, it ends in a cliffhanger.

Finley (Belle)

Nyfain (the beast)

“Both halves are as beautiful as the whole.”
“With my sword and with my life, I vow to keep you safe, Penellaphe.”
“From this moment until the last moment, I am yours.”

Penellaphe “Poppy”, the Maiden, the Chosen, she basically can't do anything because of the rules. BUT Poppy here doesn't truly follow the Maiden rules, no she likes to be free and explore. She's an absolutely stunning, murderous little creature. Then there's Hawke, an absolutely stunning guard bound to protect Poppy. I absolutely love Hawke ♡. Hawke makes Poppy question everything she knows. He also tempts her with the forbidden. I enjoyed Poppy and Hawke's interactions because he isn't your average guard. He allows Poppy to be who she truly is.

Poppy's inner monologue was interesting and I am glad that her character develops throughout the book. Hoping for more character development on TCOGB. That ending! I literally squeeled Hawke might have broken my heart a little bit. Hawke, why? But I'm hoping everything will get better on the crown of gilded bones.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.✑ First of all, the cover of this book is so pretty!

✑ Sci-fi meets fantasy. Think alternate universe, multidimensional. You've got the counterpart and the equivalent. What exist in counterpart also exist in equivalent but opposite. I have to admit that I was a little confuse with the world building at the beginning but it was explained later on. Once I got the gist of it, I was hooked.

✑ I love Charlie's character. She's strong, determined and daring. She's also a total badass even before being a black spade. Charlie is a complicated character that struggles with her past and the romance in her life all while trying to prove herself to everyone. Her adventure starts after being assigned at equivalent to protect Riley “Kav” Kavanaugh and the mission somehow went off the rails. Just when I thought I saw what was coming, the book threw me a curve ball. I DID NOT SEE THAT ENDING COMING! Wow, so what happens next?

✑ PS. I honestly was Team Ace from the beginning. I'm hoping there's still a chance for my ship to sail on the second book? I mean Kav is nice and all but Ace....

Thank you to BookSirens and the Author.
