“I wouldn't let the fear of the risk outweigh the possibility of reward.”
Burn is a YA paranormal fantasy filled with ghosts, golems, demons, and plenty of supernatural intrigue.
We follow Astar (half demon, half human) and Nora (a human raised in the paranormal world), and their dynamic was one of my favorite parts of the book. It hooked me at the beginning, though the pacing slowed a bit in the middle. Around the 100-page mark, it picked back up and kept me more engaged.
Nora's character stood out to me—she struggles with self-doubt while carrying the weight of her family legacy, and the idea that runes offer great power but devastating consequences adds a strong layer of tension to her journey. Astar, on the other hand, knows what he's capable of but holds back, which leads to secrets and plenty of unanswered questions.
I really enjoyed both their relationship development and their individual growth. By the end, I was fully invested and curious to see where their path leads next.
There's still so much to explore with these characters, especially after that ending, and I'd definitely continue the series.
Side note: I would love to see more of Mira's character—there's a lot of potential there that I hope gets explored.
Thank you to the author for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Verity started out so slow, it was dragging. The characters felt flat. But, boy, am I glad to keep pushing because ones that manuscript showed up things got interesting. Shit got creepy. And Verity is a nutcase with a co-dependency issue.
Then that twist happened. But, was it really true? Or are we just being manipulated? Also, WTF Jeremy?? You were just as deceiving. Low, you know better than that, I think, I hope. End of rant
Honestly, I don't know what to say. I was going to give this book a 3.5, but, settled for 4.
Some parts were just unhinged and I am glad Addie was able to overcome what she overcame. I actually cam to really like Sibby.
Z is questionable. Well, I like him, but, I definitely question some of his choices when it comes to Addie.
Witches!
Okay, let me just state that this was such a cozy read with a Halloween, small town vibes. I enjoyed every minute of it and adored the characters. I love Jade, you'll find out why when you read it. So if you're looking for something cozy, something witchy, something fun to read this might just be it for you.
Initial reaction
Damnnn. Secrets just UPHEAVAL towards the last few chapters of the book. Holy mother of cookies.

“For her friends, for her family, she would gladly be a monster”.
Wow. I am utterly speechless. I was raging. I was crying. I had all the feels and I devoured this book in 2 days.
They rattled the damn stars. Not just her, but them! As a collective, as friends, as family.
I was ready to fight Chaol for so many damn reasons. He's got A LOT of growth to do.
I love love Rowan. I mean I don't need to explain why.
“But until then...until then I'll miss you, and I'll wish you were here.”
I was very excited to read this book because of the tropes and come on, its demons and demon hunter, what more could you ask for.
Things that I like/enjoyed in this book:
• Xander - prince of hell, half demon. Okay, so I really like how much of a smooth talker Xander is.
• Camille - daughter of demon hunters, smitten kitten. She's got butterflies all over her stomach when it comes to Xander (can't say I blame her with how smooth he is).
• Harper - the badass best friend of Camille
• Blake - Xander's demon bodyguard
• Demon/demon hunter plot which kind of reminded me a little bit of Supernatural.
Bonus Points: Anxiety representation and character interviews towards the end of the book.
What felt short for me in this book:
• Camille. She's in this list because of her poor decision making skills. I can't say much without spoiling it, but, come on.
• The relationship seemed a little rush. I guess it would fall under the instalike trope. I don't necessarily have a problem with insta- tropes, however, there was no build up between Camille and Xander (as much as I like their chemistry together).
Overall, I enjoyed The Devil's Waltz. It could have definitely been better. I enjoyed each character. I'm hoping the next book we get more than what was given in this one. Also that ending, what in the actual hell.
You might like this book if you like demon/demon hunter, forbidden love, lovers-enemies-(maybe)lovers, instalike, paranormal, witty banter (which I only saw between Blake and Camille).
