What an amazing story to read. Once I started reading I couldn't stop. I was enthralled by these characters and their story. The suspense is real and will keep you turning the page wanting to know what happened. The sexual tension is palpable and the buildup is pure perfection, it makes that first kiss explosive. And of course, once they give in to those feelings it's hard to ever imagine them fighting it. The banter between them is brilliant and balances the suspense fantastically.
Jaxson Price is sweet. Yes, I said sweet. And you know what? He was just what I needed. He was charming, funny, and would literally give the shirt off his back to help someone. I adored him and I want to marry him.
Willow is ALL the things. Heck, Ava is a goddess at writing strong heroines and she didn't fail with Willow. Although she has some stuff going on she's able to take control of her life and save herself, and I just loved that. I was mentally high-fiving my girl!
Ava's writing is smooth, enjoyable and easy to read. As always she handles a sensitive subject with such grace and beauty that it is difficult not to get lost in her world and have empathy for the characters. The final couple of chapters and epilogue to this book are everything. I'm not going to lie and say I didn't shed some tears...just a handful.
Remember Me is a suspenseful read that will keep you engrossed until the final page. Leaving you wanting more.
Luke and Grace have history but they've been apart for two years, when they're thrust back together again only one of them is pleased about it. This book is full of suspense and sexiness. It's a little darker than my usual, but fantastic, all the same. Can Luke break through Grace's well-constructed walls designed to protect her heart? Will his job get in the way of their HEA? You'll have to read it to find out.

The epic conclusion to the Bayshore University trilogy is finally here. Join Harlow, Oliver, Banks, and Sullivan as they fight for their HEA!
Oh, my days! This final installment in the Bayshore series is all the things. But, just because it's the final book, don't let that fool you about it being all hearts and sweetness. This book is hard on the heart. J.L. Beck and C. Hallman stick to the theme of this series and bring all the angst and all the heartache. I cried, I laughed, I swooned...man, did I swoon. They bring the sexy too. Answer all those pesky questions and even make me change my mind about a character or two. It was a pleasure to spend time with these characters and it's going to be strange now that their story is complete.
I cannot wait to see what they write next and have my fingers crossed for a certain character getting a story.

It is full of intrigue and grasps you from the very first page. Who are these people? How are they connected? Where is this going? It's beautifully written. Each sentence with a purpose and bleeding from the page.
Caroline, Sterling, and Remy have me itching at the bit for more. I need to know more. I need to get under the layers that Dyer so intricately weaved into this prequel. It sets up the series so perfectly, with everything you come to expect from the talented Elizabeth Dyer, intrigue and suspense galore. It will leave you satisfied and begging for more. Not to mention the swirl of so many questions in your mind. I cannot wait for HoH: The Red Queen.

Ava Harrison is the goddess of angsty, sexy, all the feels, believable reads and this book is all of those things and more. I love an age gap romance and not only is Entice an age gap, but also a dad's best friend story. Hello! Yes, please! I loved the touch of forbidden with this one. Her words draw me in and leave me reeling. Every. Darn. Time. They're beautiful and angsty, and real - there are always real emotions and fears in her books that keep me turning the page...or avoiding that pause button. Full transparency, I did not feed my family today, they fended for themselves, so I could stay immersed in Ava's world. Entice is another spectacular addition to her catalogue of books.
Grayson Price is a broody, unfeeling, and well, quite simply, grumpy bugger...who also happens to be sexy as hell. He's dealt with a lot of loss that has shaped his opinions and actions. He thinks he's protecting himself and others by not opening up, so even though he is grumpy, his reasons are valid and it makes him all the more lovable. River hasn't had the easiest childhood, she experienced a very erratic upbringing before landing on her father's doorstep at age twelve...the same day she met and became infatuated with, Grayson Price. The events in her past have left her scarred and insecure. Her fears of abandonment are very real and affect the way she deals with things. Despite that, she has a friendly and happy personality.
Sometimes you meet characters, and you just fall in love with them, that happened with Grayson and River. They are so different that they were the perfect complement to each other. Grayson was broody and unfeeling, whereas River was joyful and felt too much at times, they balanced each other out. The sexual tension between this couple is off the charts, I adored the will they, won't they element, even though we knew they would, we were just waiting on Grayson to make that move, and once he does, it's like a dam breaks. And it is perfection. River was definitely the girl to break Grayson out of his walled defence, and it was a joy to listen to his walls cracking as he let her in and opened himself up to love.
I loved the rekindled friendship between Grayson and Tyler, which is what made this book have that forbidden feel. I adored that River found herself a friend in Sadie and I'd love to see her have a story. There is a little undercurrent of mystery to the story, and I liked that it wasn't a big part of it, but enough to quip interest and have River be the one to want to figure it all out. A big part of the story is River's mom, and why she keeps abandoning her, I thought that was written to perfection, and I loved watching all those pieces fall into place. Gray's interactions with his family were fabulous, I always love seeing sibling connections. I cannot wait for Jax's book.
Sebastian York was fantastic as Grayson Price, it was brilliant casting. He plays the grumpy and lovable bachelor so fantastically. It's no secret that my favourite SebYo performance was in Absolution, but I think this one is next in line. Virginia Rose has such a lovely tone, and I thought she played the young and enticing River Reed wonderfully, I will say that if I hadn't known River's age, I'd have thought she was a little older but other than that, her performance was amazing. The emotional moments were performed spectacularly...I shed a few tears, not going to lie. I thought their voices complemented each other really well, and it was an enjoyable listen. I can rarely spend a whole day listening to a book these days, but I did, and it was a joy. The production was wonderful, with no noticeable issues.
Another is a sweet and sexy accidental pregnancy story that will leave you satisfied and wishing for more. (It May also leave you panting and swooning all the swoons)
This might be tied as my favourite Fiona Cole book ever. I am so utterly in love with Ian Bergamo it isn't even funny. He is sweet, and hilarious, and such an amazing dirty talker. Oh, and did I mention one of the best fictional dads ever? I swooned so hard. At times I think I was a melted mess on the floor.
Now, just because Ian is ALL the bloody things. Don't let that fool you. Carina Russo is a freaking Goddess among queens. She is a total bad-arse and deserves all the attention Ian gives her. I loved her smart and sassy ways. Heroines are always hit and miss for me, but Carina's take no shit attitude as well as her insecurities made me love her even more than I originally did.
This book is everything. Every. Thing! Everyone needs to read it!
It releases on Sept 12 and is part of the Voyeur World Series but can be read as a standalone. For the best reading experience I'd recommend reading Lovers (An MMF Story) first as Carina is one of the main characters, Another is her HEA.
When Rivals Lose is the steamy continuation of the Brayshore University trilogy. It will leave you panting and begging for answers. That cliffhanger!
Book two brings all the heat, all the swoons, and all the intrigue- it also answers some of those pesky questions whilst leaving you with even more. I needed someone to hold me after that ending.
If you enjoyed book one, When Rivals Fall, you will most definitely love this one. Book two brings all the heat, all the swoons, and all the intrigue - it also answers some of those pesky questions whilst leaving you with even more. I needed someone to hold me after that ending.
Trust me, these brothers will have you swooning all the swoons.

When Rivals Fall is a sexy enemies to lovers, reverse harem story. It will leave you on your knees begging for more...literally, that cliffhanger was major!
Oliver, Banks, and Sullivan will have you panting with lust and wanting to kick them in the nads in one fell swoop. They're sexy. They're mean. They're sweet. They're cruel. They're charming. Did I mention they were sexy? Well, it needs repeating. You'll be hard pressed to choose just one of them, no wonder Harlow has difficulties.
Reverse harem isn't really my jam. I've just not read a lot of it, but this book had my hooked from the beginning. It is full of sexiness, intrigue, and moments that will make your heart melt.
I have so many questions! And I know you will too. Grab it today!

This book is the first I've read/ listened to by Danielle Norman and it won't be my last. It was short, sweet, and sexy. It was well written and kept my interest, it had a little mystery going on - although it was obvious with one of the characters from the get go, which I think was the point. It gave you someone to dislike. But, there was other things that made you wonder and I loved that aspect. There was one really emotional scene that I hadn't anticipated and applause to the author for making me cry in my kitchen.
London and Brady were so good together, the relationship had very little drama and the chemistry between them was on fire. I loved their banter and that made the chemistry even more palpable. One of the other things that I liked was how London and her sisters were dealing with having a business in a very male driven world and their way of dealing with things, especially since they were also still grieving.
I am hoping Paris and Holland both have books because I need their stories stat!
The narration was superb. Stella Bloom is a wonderful narrator and I've enjoyed many of her performances, this one wasn't the exception, she was London - the smart and sassy ranch owner with insecurities was played perfectly. Jonathan Ash was a new narrator to me and I thought he was fantastic, his tone suited the sweet and charming police officer. I'll definitely be listening to more of his work. I thought their voices complemented each other and made for easy listening.
There were no production issues of note.
Never Have I Ever had so many things I wanted to say and yet, the words are just stuck. How many times can I say the word awesome in a review? I mean, I wouldn't be wrong, because this book is awesome, but I need to be a little more articulate than that. So, here goes...ramblings by Kelly LOL.
Once again, Lauren Blakely hits it out of the park. With Never Have I Ever, Lauren brings depth to her classic rom-com style. Don't worry, I'm not talking Unbreak My Heart type depth, sheesh, I'm still not over that. But Zach is a single father and the way he navigates that gives the story an extra depth that it wouldn't have had without it. A vulnerability. It made him likeable. Sweet. I might have developed a crush...oh well, in my defence, he's the sweetest dad ever, how could I not? But my crush wasn't limited to just him though, I'm an equal opportunities crusher and Piper got the crush treatment too. I just loved how they were together. The chemistry was palpable from the get-go and it never let up. The back and forth with the jibes was hilarious, I'm a huge fan of banter and I thought theirs was some of the best I've listened to recently. Once they finally gave in to their desire, holy mackerel! it was explosive. And did somebody say they wanted steam? Because, I swear, my windows started to condense with the heat level. Zach has a dirty mouth (Thank you, Goddess Lauren). This book is sexy and sweet and swoony. Yes, all the Ss again. But, it's also super funny and has some emotional moments, some of the scenes with the kids were killerāthis emotional girl just couldn't handle it. But it just gave the book that much more of a heck yeah from me. Lucy is the sweetest ten-year-old and I dare you not to tear up with a particular scene with her. And Henry is a cutie seven-year-old that you just want to hug all day every day. The way Piper was with them was the icing on the cake, and once again proved that biology doesn't make a family, love does.
Lauren is the freaking Queen of audiobook casting. She always finds the perfect voices for her characters and is willing to introduce her listeners to narrators they may not have heard before. She doesn't just stick with the popular onesānot that there is anything wrong with thatāshe's an advocate for new talent...even if that's a new talent to you. And I love her for it. I cannot wait to see what she has in store next.
I would love...I'm begging, on my hands and knees, (okay, full disclosure, I'm sat on the bed, but it sounded good, right?) for Lauren to write a full story, or at least a novella, for Piper's sister, Paige (if this exists and I've missed it somebody better tell me right freaking now!). It's a topic close to my heart and I was so happy to have that included and be painted in a good light, that I'd love to see it expanded upon. There were several threads that would make great stories...or that are already available to read/ listen to, or that I know are coming. Exciting times for LB fans.
I have listened to many Jason Clarke audiobooks. I adore his narrations and have for several years, yes folks, before we knew what he looked like I was swooning over his voice, what I can say? I have good taste. So, I knew I was going to enjoy his performance, but I was actually surprised at how much I adored this particular performance. He delivered the perfect balance of sweet, caring dad, and top-notch lawyer, with a penchant for winding up his frenemy. The exchanges between Zach and Piper where hilarious, and once they started the move from enemies to friends, and then more, gah! It was everything, Jason performed it all to a T, and the vulnerability Zach had shone through. There were several scenes with the children that were fantastic, and one that gutted me. I know, I know, I'm too emotional. But you try and not be affected when you're an emotional person and the voice actor is killing it with the emotion and kid voices, I can only survive so much. He just nailed it all and it was fantastic. And exactly why he is so sought after.
I've never listened to Amanda Ronconi before, so, I'll admit, I was a little nervous. I'm a picky listener, that is not new information, I like what I like and if I don't like it, well, yeah, that sucks but honesty is always key. I don't always follow the narrator trends. But I have a question. Why the heck has nobody been shouting about this particular narrator? Have they and I missed it? Then why did nobody make me pay attention? She was absolutely bloody brilliant. I need to go and purchase all the books she's worked onā I do own a couple, as it turns out, yayābecause I need more of her awesomeness in my ears. Amanda was perfectly cast as Piper, she had the sweet, girl next door, type of vibe, but, could and would stand her ground and pull punches with the best of them, and that shone through beautifully in the performance. The way she switched from each character flawlessly was astounding. I couldn't get enough.
I think this was the first time that Jason and Amanda have teamed up on an audiobook, and I have to say, it needs to happen again, and stat! Their voices blend so well. The change of character PoV wasn't drastic. It felt like an easy transition for the listener. They both can carry a British accent too, which, as we all know, is something of a stumbling block for this Brit, when she listens. I honestly can't say enough about the quality of the performances, if, for no other reason than the amazing narration, you should listen to this audiobook. The production was great too, with no noticeable issues. I also just want to add that the running time of this audiobook is ALL this book. No sneak peeks, no bonuses, it's all the story and I loved that. I loved that I got to spend over 8 hours with these characters and in their world, not to mention enjoying the voice talent of these particular actors.
Let's start with the fact this is a prequel, I knew that going in as it's noted in the description, it's also not a happy ending type of story ...hence the word prequel. But, what it is is a wonderfully written enemies to lovers, secret friends novella. An intro to Damiano De Luca and Renata Vitali's story that will leave you wanting more. And lucky for us, we don't have to wait long at all. Did I mention I adore second chance stories? I cannot wait for theirs. It's going to be ALL the things. I can already tell.
Renata Vitali is the Mafia Princess you can't help but love. She's calm under fire. Has an air of innocence and indifference yet stands her ground. I loved her fierceness especially considering her age. And the fact that she makes decisions based on her heart even though she'd have everyone believe she doesn't have one. Damiano De Luca on the other hand, swoon, what's not to like? He endures so much for others which says the most about the sort of man he is...and if he's like that at 18, what is he going to be like years from now? GAH! I cannot wait to find out. Don't get me wrong, he has some A-hole tendencies but that just makes him all the more endearing...maybe I'm weird.

When I started Niccolaio Andretti I wasn't sure how I'd feel. The heroine, Minka Reynolds was in Asher Black and wasn't a nice person...at all. But that is where Parker S. Huntington's fantastic writing comes into play. She totally turned it around, making Minka not only likeable but forgiveable. You understand her actions and she is the best person for Niccolaio. Nick is something else entirely, he's the man that made a decision and is paying for it, it isn't until Minka that he truly starts to heal and enjoy life. He's a total badass. A bad guy for hire for the right reasons. When they come together it's pure enemies to lovers goodness. The sexual tension between them is palpable and you can feel their desire to not taint the other person leaping off the page. But, once they are together, BAM, fireworks and you know it's going to be for keeps.
I loved the thread of forgiveness running through this story. Not just of other people but of yourself. Sometimes the person we are hardest on is the one person that needs our forgiveness the most and that's usually ourselves. Once they're able to start that process they're able to grow as individuals and together.
I'm not even going to pretend I didn't cry towards the end, because, I'm not a liar. Tears, lots of tears. Having read this scene from other character's point of view(because I've been reading backwards and it's a vital part of each story) you'd think I'd be less affected, but, nope. I think each time although it's the same scene because the character's reaction is different it almost feels like a completely different scene and that takes skill...skill that Parker has in spades.
If you like your hero/heroine to be less then squeaky clean then you will love this.

I went back to the beginning, if you've been following my Five Syndicates reading you'll know I've been going backwards, but I skipped and went back to the start after Ranieri Andretti. Asher Black, sigh, what can I say? This book is so good. Parker S. Huntington is masterful (or should it be mistressful š¤·š»āāļø) at writing a riveting story. I was hooked from the first chapter. She writes so beautifully and draws the reading in and keeps them intrigued. I swear, I was ready to throw my Kindle, Asher pissed me off so much. I couldn't understand why anyone liked him. Sure, he's good looking but he's manipulative and an arse. But, then the explanations start pouring in and BAM! I'm lost in the sea of emotions that I have for him. It brought everything into perspective and from that moment it all made sense and I adored him. I just love that...having my opinion completely turned on its head. Not everyone has the skill to do that...I'm not exactly easy to please, but Parker did it. Lucy was so awesome. I loved her, I wanted to shake her at times for not kicking Asher in the nads and telling him to do one! But, I loved how she overcame things in her past and how being around Asher made her comfortable enough to truly be herself. Some might say being with Asher made her strong and fierce but I don't see it that way, he didn't change her and she didn't change for him. She finally had the safety and confidence to be the person she always wanted to be and I think she was as shocked as anyone else to figure that out. I adored the way the conflict she felt about being with Asher was portrayed. It felt very real and believable.
The sexual tension between this couple was off the charts, my god. It was intense and when they finally came together? Explosive. I loved their interactions and seeing the Big Bad Asher with a heart of gold played a big part in turning dislike to love. I thought the book had some wonderful humourous moment and they really balanced the book out. There are plenty of characters to love and hate throughout this book, you should read it to find out who they are.
Definitely a must read!
The performances in Junk Mail were absolutely spot on. Joe Arden and Savannah Peachwood's voices are well suited. It was stellar casting. They were Josh and Peyton. Joe Arden was made to do ROM COM. His timing and reactions are just perfect. Savannah Peachwood is wonderful, as ever, I really enjoy their dynamic together.
Josh and Peyton were such a cute couple. How they got together was funny as anything and their connection instant. I loved how they tried to stay professional but just couldn't resist one another. The story was cute and I loved it. Until I didn't. It got to the part of the inevitable ābreak upā and I had to do a double take at my phone. What did I just hear? Surely, I misheard? I get that it's fiction and the ābreak upā was necessary to the story, but it just didn't work for me, it felt like forced conflict for the sake of it, rather than something that made sense. And the reasonings, Sheesh. I wanted to reach into my phone and slap a dude. I always hate being negative, but I'm also always going to be honest, regardless. The conflict aspect didn't work for me. The half...maybe more of the story up until that part was fantastic and the āgetting back together' was wonderful too. It was just that little bit. Grams was hilarious and I was so pleased with how the story ended for her too. She was sassy and I just loved that. It's a great romcom that will have listeners spitting out their drinks whilst listening. The puns and double entendres were hilarious. It's Kendall, so you know the sexy times were as great as ever. Overall it's a lovely, quick listen. It'll appeal to lots of listeners. If you're a Joe Arden fan, you definitely need this audiobook.
The production was brilliant, as always. What I will say is that I felt after Junk Mail ended there should have been something...maybe āThis story is over, but why not try...' to lead into the preview of The Hookup Handbook, rather than a beat after the last word the title for the preview. It just felt squashed in there and could be confusing for other listeners. Though, if you haven't listened to The Hookup Handbook, make sure you stay tuned for the preview, Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon narrate and it's all the things.

I'm reading this series backwards...don't judge me. I loved Bastiano Romano so freaking much, but, you know, it's one of those things where you don't know if it's a fluke. If you just gelled with the writing and the story. We'll, after finishing Ranieri Andretti I think it's safe to say that it wasn't a fluke. I loved it. Parker S. Huntington has such a beautiful way of creating these characters and circumstances where you know you should probably dislike the hero and his actions but deep down, you just can't help being in love with him. And the heroine? Sheesh. She writes the BEST heroines. I love them almost as much as I love the heroes. They are strong and feisty. Just how I like them. I've always been a sucker for second chance romances and this book is no different. It's a novella, but don't let that detracted from the story. It's not lacking at all. The characters are well rounded and I never felt like I was missing something. I think Parker did a fabulous job of giving the reader enough information without repeating things from other books. That takes skill. Ranie and Carina have such a long history and their love started so innocently and it was beautiful and perfect...until it wasn't. I liked how that played out and although I was holding myself back from kicking him in the nads a few times, I knew something must have happened, once we finally get that missing piece it all made sense. I loved how as adults he persued Carina and because of the things they'd been through she fought it. The build up and the coming together was fantastic. A definite must read. There is something in this story that I adored, I don't want to ruin anything, so I'll just say this, letters! Swoon. I loved it.
Every time I start a Heather Lyn book I think to myself that this is the one that won't break me. But, then I break. Her words are so emotionally driven that it's hard for me not to connect to the story and characters. They hurt and I hurt with them, but what I'm always guaranteed is a fantastic payout. And this book was no different. Nacole and Garret are everything. Their story is everything. It was heartbreaking and beautiful. My heart bled for Nacole and what she'd been through - was it easy to read, no, it was truly heartbreaking, but it's also something that is happening every day somewhere and that just makes it all the more sad, but ultimately her story had a happy ending and that made the difficult parts worth it. The way Heather incorporated her past into the present was perfection and made it easier to read too. Garret, swoon. Nacole calls him a Book Boyfriend and I have to agree. He's the tough sexy cop that has a sweetness to him. I adored the cameos from Heather's characters from different books....it's always good to have a little catch up with your favourite book people. That being said it is a standalone and their story is complete. This book was just what I needed.
Kendall Ryan is the queen of quick, easy, light, fluffy reads/ listens. And I say that with the utmost respect. Sometimes we need something light...life is full of dark. Nic and Elle are so sweet together. I actually loved their start, even though part of me was like, why didn't they just uninvite the douche to the wedding? Then all would have been fine...of course, then there would be no story, so. Swings and roundabouts and all that. Nic was such a sweetheart, I loved him from the get-go and I thought the handling of his āprofession' was great and fit with the story and relationship well. Elle was sweet but, I wanted to shake her at times. But, after her experiences with her ex it did make sense that she'd be wary. Christine was a big ole B - I spent most of the book asking who the heck she thought she was? I'm still at a loss as to why she felt she had the right to choose on both occasions. She's the definition of a busy-body.
I've read everything Fiona Cole has written and can honestly say her writing just keeps getting better and better. Fiona is a queen of writing books that draw the reader in and make them love the characters and the world she has created. This book is already on my best of 2019 list and in my top three books by Fiona. He's an A-HOLE with a heart. She's a sassy heroine that won't take his crap lying down. Together they're perfection.
Savior is one of those books that just consumed me. I couldn't put it down. In fact, I've read it three times and I'm itching to read it again. It's such a strange (In a good way) book to categorise because it has a little of everything. It's sexy and sweet and suspenseful. The three S's. It's original and beautiful. Some people will tell you that Erik Brandt is an A-hole. Me? I just call him #MyCaveman I loved him so much. He does a-hole things but his reasons are what make him so lovable. Seeing him fighting his attraction- in some of the worse ways (I wanted to throat punch him at times) but once he gave in fully, he was ALL IN and that just made me love him all the more. I think if we didn't have his POV that my opinion might be slightly different, but knowing his thought processes really made him a BBFF for me. Alexandra is awesome. I adored her. I'd totally be her friend. There were times when I was shouting at her to just stop and not do some things, but I also understood. Her sass and fiery nature hid her vulnerability and it was really endearing.
Erik and Alexandra both have a resilience that is commendable. They fight for what they believe and for each other. It's a partnership. And it was beautiful. Their relationship was beautiful - the push and pull. The age difference all blended so well. I loved the suspense element to this book it really had me on the edge of my seat at times and cursing and hoping. There are characters to love and characters to hate - I'm not saying I had my fingers crossed for a painful end for some people...but I'm not denying it either.
I loved the little nods to other books by Fiona. Although it took me a hot minute to connect one of them...I shall hide my face in shame.
If you thought Voyeur and Lovers were fantastic, you ain't seen nothing yet. Fiona Cole has set the bar with this one! You NEED this book in your life. Do yourself a favour and add this book to the top of your TBR.
You know how sometimes you're so excited for a book that in the back of your mind you're a little nervous that it'll be a letdown? Not that you doubt the author will write a great story, but that you just expect so much that it's hard for anyone to be able to fully compete with your expectations? Dylan Allen not only met but exceeded my expectations with The Legend. This book is everything I could have hoped and imagined and then some. When we first met Remington Wilde in The Legacy I was intrigued and wanted to know more about him. I even went as far as to say he was going to be my new book boyfriend. I knew I loved him and wanted his story. Well, Dylan didn't make me wait long and she didn't disappoint. Remi and Kal's story is one of the best second chance romances I have EVER read. It is full of intrigue and heartbreak and beauty. I highlighted so many of their moments. True love really is worth a million chances and they prove that to us throughout this book.
The Legend is spectacularly written. Dylan Allen intricately weaves love, emotion, lies, intrigue, heartbreak and sex throughout this book that it is a beauty to behold. As I read and saw layers of the story unfold before my eyes I was captivated by the depth and beauty of it. It was messy love. It was a disaster waiting to happen. And each time I thought I had a handle on it, on my emotions, something else would happen...another layer would be revealed and I'd be left reeling. And it all comes together so seamlessly, that once it's over, I was left smiling at the utter perfection that was this story. How invested I was in this world and these characters and wanting to dive right back in again. Now that's not to say it was easy. It was not easy. I shouted, a lot, I cursed even more. So many curse words! I laughed out loud. I imagined high-fiving and fist-pumping character, as well as throat-punching...I'm talking serious, hold a girl back, I'm about to cause bodily harm. I also cried. I stayed up late into the early hours because I couldn't put it down. My heart wasn't sure it could take the beating it was being handed, but IT WAS WORTH IT. I love that an author can evoke such visceral reactions from me with their words.
I think the length of their story, the time it covered worked fantastically. Like with Envy, we got to experience, rather than just be told what their history entailed, and I will always champion that because I think it gives the reader an insight and connection to each character that they might not have gotten without it...at least, not as deep a connection. I feel, anyway. One of the things that I truly adored about this story is that it was all about timing. Things had to happen the way they did for them to appreciate what their love was. It involved a lot of heartache for them both and I hate that they both had to experience so much of it, but it made them who they are today and realise that true love can and will outlast and conquer anything else. I want more. I know, I know, I'm selfish but I'd totally be down for a novella - let me see them living their happily ever after. I just love this couple so much. I didn't want to leave them. I'm not opposed to begging.
Remi was everything I could have hoped for. He was smooth...well, at least he thought he was LOL. He was sweet and caring and he loved so deeply, how could anyone not fall head over heels for him? And that mouth? Oh, my days! Who knew he had that sexy, bossy, dirtiness hidden away. (Raises hand!) Kalilah Greer is everything. You know, I am super hard on my heroines. They have to work hard to win me over, I dunno why, I just am. I need them to be amazing, I need to connect with them on a level. Dylan has yet to write a heroine that I don't fall for. Kal is vulnerable, yet strong. She has this resilience to her that has to be respected. She's experienced so much, yet her heart is still open. Even when she is beaten down, she gets right back up and does what she must. And I just loved that about her. I may have disagreed with some of her decisions...maybe just one of them, but I understood it. I respected her need for it. She's the type of woman I could imagine being friends with. The type of person I'd want in my life. Their connection and chemistry was off the charts. From sweet to downright dirty. I was with them and I swooned. Hard. I fell hard, and I never stopped. Remi has game...but, Kal was never that to him and I think that's why this love was so captivating. This cover, sigh, this cover is so them. It screams Remi and Kal. Their passion and love and struggles just shine through on this image. I cannot wait to get my hands on the paperback.
I love Rivers Wilde and I still want to move there. I know a bookstore that could hire me. I'd be an awesome employee...just saying!
This is my first book by Parker S. Huntington and I can assure you it won't be my last. It's not only well written but captivating. The formatting is fantastic. I loved the chapter images and page breaks - they probably look even better on a device with colour (darn you, Paperwhite, darn you!) - I checked, and they totally do. I don't read a lot of mafia-related books, I dunno why, I guess it's just not something that appeals to me and since the morals are loose, I guess I always worry about the possibility of consent issues - since that's something I don't like reading, I just avoided them. That was a mistake. This book ticked all my boxes of favourite things so I decided to take a chance and WOW, I need more of these books in my life. It just shows that stepping out of your comfort zone every once in a while can be worthwhile. Often times the enemies to lovers aspect of the story doesn't go on for long and then it's all hearts and flowers, that is not the case here. It's a slow burn. In that you get the enemies feel for much longer, a good half, if not more, of the book and I loved it. It kept me turning the page wondering when they were going to break!
I have to admit I cried at a couple of points, 1. The dedication - just read it and you'll know why. 2. When Ari and Vince have a sit-down. I had my suspicions about him that turned out to be right - I didn't guess the depth of it all, but some of it. I love being able to do that, that the author keeps you on your toes and guessing. Parker writes beautifully. I enjoyed every second of it. She gives you enough info to make you intrigued and then feeds you little bits to keep you interested until the big finale. It works so well. I was captivated throughout. These characters are so interesting that you can't help but want to binge read them. I now need to dive in and read the others in the series...I know, I totally broke my āread in order' rule, but, they are standalones, and I don't think I ruined anything by reading this one first. I'm just more invested in the others. Why nobody has been shouting at me to read this series is beyond me. I'm not a huge mafia lover and I was in complete love with it. I love the world that Parker has created and although there are different families it is easy to keep track of who is who and their connections.
The chemistry between these two characters is off the charts. It's almost palpable. They are clearly attracted to each other but they spar almost continuously. And it is fabulous. I couldn't wait to see what they were going to do next. The fact that Ariana had Bastian's little sister on her side was such a cute and hilarious aspect. The fact that this big bad guy couldn't control that. It was perfect. Two words: Unicorn Chair! HAHAHA. The sex, oh my word! Somebody pass me a fan, or a new Kindle because I think mine just melted. Or maybe that was me? With chemistry like this couple had it wasn't a surprise that the sex was explosive. And for my anal loving fans, they wasted no time getting to that. Which worked so well for the way they were. There was no way Bastian wasn't going to want ALL of Ariana once he had her, ya know? With that said, each sex scene had a point, it furthered their relationship and the story. It wasn't sex for sex sake.
Bastian is the type of guy that you love to hate. He's such an a-hole, but he has his reasons. I think the first chapter was necessary to give insight into why he is the way he is now, and it worked really well because even when you're mad at him, in the back of your mind you still can't help but think, yeah, but he has his reasons. Without it, I think I would have liked him a little less...who am I kidding, I loved his a-hole ways! He is broken and watching him heal and become the man he truly is is wonderful. The relationship with his sister is fantastic and it really shows him in another light. I loved Ariana, I loved that she was vulnerable, yet strong and she was not going to take what Bastian was handing out without a fight. I loved seeing her relationship with Tessie. It was the sweetest. I hated how her only friend was a child. I wanted to be her friend. I think we'd be fast buddies. They were the perfect couple. It took them a while to see that you were perfect for each other, but they were. They worked as a counter-balance to each other and made each other think about things in a different way that allowed them to grow.
I love when authors include in their writing things about a bond and love not having to be blood. That's a subject that comes up in this story and I loved it. I was doing ALL the fist pumps. And I might have made my husband jump with my shout of āhell yeah' - I regret nothing! It was worded so perfectly and you better believe my highlight function was used.
This book has such a good balance of content. It's angsty, but also has lighthearted humourous moments too. It's steamy as all get-out, but emotional too. It has characters you'll love and characters you'll love to hate or hate to love. It'll also make you swoon all the swoons. And that makes for an unputdownable book. This is going on my list of favourite books from 2019 for sure.
Let me start by say that it took me a long time to read this book, not because I wasn't enjoying it but because of life and other commitments. Had I had the time this would probably have been a day or two read at most. Why you ask? Because it is so intriguing it makes you want to keep turning the page and wanting to know what happens next. The blurb did not prepare me for what I experienced with this book. I thought it was going to be your typical friends to lovers, movie star romance and it most definitely wasn't. This book has so many layers and depth that it's hard to sum it up in a few words and sentences. Dylan Allen is a queen when it comes to blending an emotional story, with sensitive themes and sexy times. It's the perfect combination, that is written so fluidly that it's a joy to experience. This story hit me in all the feels. Every one. The hope just filled me with warmth for these characters. Ultimately, it's a story about finding your soulmate and having the strength to do what you have to; to survive, to be worthy, and eventually giving yourself the forgiveness you deserve. It's heart-wrenchingly beautiful.
It was a difficult book to read at times, especially at the beginning. But, seeing those experiences really catapulted this book, I think without it, Graham wouldn't have been as likeable. Had Dylan just told us rather than showed us, I wouldn't have empathised with his character as much and therefore not understood his mindset and forgiven him for things that he did. His character growth was astounding. Everything he had experienced, to see his progression was nothing short of beautiful, which, was why when his situation is taken advantage of, I was so mad. Especially with how he decided to handle it. I wanted to slap a guy...not gonna lie. I loved Apollo, I loved her free-spirited nature and the way she was understanding and accepting of Graham and his choices. He should never have doubted her. He was her star and she would have followed him anywhere. I can understand her frustration and I was totally on board with some of the things she did. Especially towards the end. I might even have shouted, āThat's my girl!ā ā What can I say, I love a heroine I can support and that will do what it takes to protect her man. There is one thing that happens in the story that literally had me shouting at my Kindle and contemplating throwing it. I was so mad. How can a person make a decision without all the facts? Graham should have told Apollo everything before he put his D inside her. I'm still furious about it. Apollo should have given him a swift kick in the nads for that crap. I'm not even joking, of all his decisions, this was the one that got to me the most. If I could have reached through my Kindle, I would have. I enjoyed the ending, I think it was a nice close to the book and sort of bookended the beginning, which I loved. I just wish we'd found out what had happened to that biatch. Because she better be rotting somewhere...that's all I'm saying.
I loved that so much time was spent on their friendship because this truly was a story of friends becoming more. Nothing like your typical friends to lovers and it worked perfectly. It very much felt like a story of three parts; young adult, to new adult, to contemporary romance. The reason because it covers so much of their lives and I thought it was all pulled together so spectacularly that it just goes to show the skill and talent of Dylan Allen and why she is a must read author. I like the cover, but it wasn't the reason I picked the book up and it wouldn't have enticed me to. I don't think it accurately depicts the raw emotional tale inside. However, I know many many people that would pick it up based on this cover ā I'm just super picky!
Sometimes you read/ listen to a book and it's not what you expect. Intention is one of those books. I thought I'd enjoy it, but I wasn't expecting to connect so deeply. This book consumed me. It was everything. Things to know about me, I don't really like British heroes and I find it hard to connect with heroines. Things about this book, I adored Nathaniel Harrington, and I loved and connected with Madeline Montgomery. So yeah, that totally turned itself around and I love it when that happens. When something is so unexpected. Intention is everything, this book just captured my heart and soul, it made me laugh, it made me swoon, and it made me cry...honestly, at parts it made me sob. This book is a top read, not just of 2019, but ever! It just ticked so many boxes for me that it couldn't not.
Ava Harrison has become a must read author. She is amazingly talented and she handles sensitive subjects with such grace and sensitivity and embeds beauty and care into it so well, that is is just astounding. She clearly does an awful amount of research. You can't help but fall in love with her words and her characters. She's amazing, her writing is flawlessly beautiful and raw. I urge anybody to pick up a book of hers. But, especially this book. This book is special, this is the book that is going to grab people and say, you know what, yes! The whole book is just astounding and everything you could hope for in a book, it is just beautiful. I actually want Olly's story. What's his jam, what's going on. Who is this American he's talking about? I definitely look forward to more from Ava. You must pick up this book it is magnificent.
Nathaniel Harrington is a self-absorbed a-hole with a heart and I love him. He wants what he wants, he does what he wants and he's not going to let anything get in his way. He's the lost boy that never grew up, he's never had to. When his legacy is threatened he does what every normal person would do, he manipulates his sparring partner into becoming his fake girlfriend. Simples. Except, it's anything but simple, the chemistry and sexual tension is off the charts. It is only a matter of time before all that tension and banter would collide into something else and the more time they spend together the more their feelings change. Seeing the progression and growth in Nathaniel was awesome. He started as such an a-hole, a smooth, sexy, funny a-hole, but an a-hole just the same. And seeing him acknowledge and change from the party boy into the businessman with a heart of gold who just wanted to be happy. Madeline Montgomery is everything. I love her. It's rare I find a female character that I can identify with, that I can connect with and be on the side of. There were so many aspects of her life that I could relate to. She's a strong independent woman, she doesn't need anything, but, in reality, she does, she just doesn't know how she can have it. She doesn't want to fall in love, but she does anyway. She makes some questionable decisions that I'm sure will frustrate some listeners, but I totally understood them. They made my heart break for her. Her strength is the shining beacon of this story. Nathaniel and Madeline's relationship was really special, how they brought out the best in one another and the banter, man, it was awesome. I loved the whole Peter Pan element to the story. The epilogue was just everything I could have hoped for, and it was necessary. It really fits with the story, it offers an air of realism to what they're going through, and have been through as well, rather than just a simple, oh they lived happily ever after, which they do, don't get me wrong, this just isn't your typical and some people will not like that. Although it's short, it gives you all the details you need to know and the feeling that this wasn't just a quick fix.
The Britishness of the story is handled brilliantly, it's subtle and understated, every other word isn't bloody, and everybody drinking tea. Which believe it or not, we don't actually do. It is done in a way that it is obvious the character is British, but it's not in a way that you think OMG, this is an episode of Downton Abbey. I love the fact that this is set primarily in New York but one of the characters is British and therefore has British friends, and they do go over to London and have that time there and do some of the touristy things because you know, there is nothing worse than having a book set in London and having them doing touristy things that we just don't do. His reaction to it is very much how someone that has spent time in London would react, the touristy stuff is just that, for tourists. I thought that part was handled really well too. Credit to Ava for having the foresight to ask British readers to test read it to make sure she got it right. I wish more authors did this.
Shane East and Andi Arndt performed this book to perfection. Shane is the go-to voice for a British accent, and rightly so, he just nails every performance. He had the perfect style for the character of Nathaniel, he does sexy sarcasm so well. The progression of the character and his growth really came across brilliantly in is performance, and yes, lots of lots of swooning is to be had. Who can resist that accent? (Other than British listeners lol) Andi Arndt was fantastic as Madeline Montgomery, there are some emotional scenes that she just performed spectacularly. She left nothing out, every raw and heartbreaking part shined through. Andi is great at the smart and sassy characters and she didn't disappoint. I don't think I've ever heard her do a British accent before, and it was good, although, her male voice wasn't as swoony as normal (yeah, I swoon over a female's male voice - stop judging) but I think that is to be expected, I'm critical of the British accent anyhow and having it switch from Shane to Andi - you're going to notice it. I preferred Shane's Madeline to Andi's Nathaniel but I think many people would disagree, and that's going to be a location thing, I feel. That being said, there was nothing about their performances that I didn't like. If you pick up this audiobook, and I hope you do, I think you'll be swept away by their portrayal of these characters and their story.
I'm going to break this review down into parts, seeing as it contained more than one story. Finding Alexei is just over 4 hours. Performed by Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon. Then it includes Bossy Brit which is around 2 hours 40 minutes. Performed by Shane East and Erin Mallon. After that, there is a chapter sample of Boyfriend for Hire performed by the always amazing Jason Clarke. I'm not sure if it's a production slip up, but after that chapter, there are one or two chapters of Bossy Brit again.
Finding Alexei: 4 stars. I really enjoyed this story. It was funny and sexy, and super sweet. I just wish it were longer. It's pretty much a novella. Which is fine and enjoyable, but it could've been so much more with the storyline that it had. We're not given long enough and not enough about the characters to connect with them and become invested in their story. Ryleigh and Alex were so cute together, especially were the baby was concerned. Ryleigh was a pretty remarkable character and I just wished we got to see more of that. The narration was superb. Both Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke performed marvelously and not only did they tell the story wonderfully but the emotion they conveyed was perfection.
Bossy Brit: 4 stars. This was such a cute and sexy short story. I thought the characters were great and the narration by Erin Mallon and Shane East was brilliant. My only complaint is that the hero wasn't really British. Sure he asked for a cup of tea and used the word bloody, but that was the only thing British about him. Even his schooling was American, so it was hard for me to understand the use of a British narrator. I don't know if it was lack of research or desire to make the character authentic, or it was time constraint and fitting it all into a short story, it just took me out of the story and affected my enjoyment. Had those factors been addressed this would've been a 5 star, because it was a lovely little story. Seriously, who can resist an office romance?
